"Knowing she ain't here, and knowing where she is, ain't even the same thing," Quent replied.

A guardsman had summoned Lord Dustin who came down to the gatehouse, climbed to the parapet and looked down on the armed band at the gates. He recognized the Caron banner and figured he had some idea what this might be about. He nodded to the Flints and called down, "I recognize the Caron device. Welcome to the North and to Winterfell. What is your business here?"

Elinor bowed her head in greeting. "I have come to get my daughter."

Mors replied, "Your daughter is not at Winterfell, my lady. She left some time ago with a young Flint from the mountains. A message came here stating they were, in fact, married. We had that message sent south to you by raven."

Jaremy replied, "My father did not approve of such a wedding, and my sister is too young to make such decisions on her own. If she is returned to us shortly, we will not demand the head of her kidnapper, and raper."

Lord Dustin called back down, "If your intention in coming North was to threaten my bannermen, you'll find the welcome as frosty as our winters." He let that sink in a second before continuing. "The girl was married before the old gods and her age is more than enough to be wed. It was a legal marriage and it would be an affront to the gods to declare it otherwise. The girl's relationship to her father is rather the business between father and daughter."

"we do not mean to offend." she said glaring at her son. "but it is her father who has sent me to take her home." she shivered in the cold wind. "may we enter so we can discuss this out of the cold?"

Lord Dustin smiled. "Of course, Lady Caron. You'll find our hearths warm..." He gestured and the gate was raised. "I'll have my steward show you to some apartments and when you've had a rest from the road you may find me in the Great Hall."
