"I was safe. I was safe and away from here and now I wish that I had stayed back in Braavos. I didnt tell Steffon because I knew that the secret would get out, that Oscar's name would go down. No wonder he committed suicide, he probably thought that I betrayed him, and I did. I thought that I could trust you!"

Jherek stood outside the door, hoping to entertain his liege with some music. The Lannisters were the richest family in the land, and his talents were not often requested. He was able to play for nobody but himself, considering that Aalina and Silvana were down in Lannisport, with Cassana and Eleyna never requesting his skills. He rapped on the door softly, hoping Princess -no, not princess, QUEEN- Joanna was in a good mood.

"How was I to know you were safe?" Joanna demanded. "I went straight to Steffon long before you had written to tell me you were safe, because I was appalled that you felt you had to take flight. Why are you even blaming me, when I did all I could to aid you? It was not I who spread rumours nor I who was so cowardly as to take my own life!"

"He only did so because that rumor had started!" Mari retorted. "You promised me that you would tell no-one. Steffon had no right to know at all. You should have realised that Steffon would say. Even I am not that stupid not to know that. I was safe with Tybolt, he never would have let anything happen to me ever."

The bard was shown into the room at once.
"Hello, Master Doryn," Joanna said. "Will you play something for me?"
/////////
"Well, recollect that I had never met Tybolt or his brother at this time. How was I to know that? Besides, I thought even Steffon had more sense; I hoped he would put your happiness first. Yes, I was wrong, but our brother is not entirely devoid of sentiment. I hoped he would do the right thing."

Jherek nodded, pleased that his liege was not too distressed. He withdrew his flute and began playing a soft tune, light and airy, a tune of joy and love.

"And you think that I was stupid enough to leave with someone that I didnt think would look after me? Or who loved me, and was willing to prove it?" Mari said, giving her sister a strange look. She looked like she was going to say something more, but didnt.
"I am leaving with Steffon in a few days. If they arent ready by then I cannot take them."

Joanna lsitened to the song and as she did so she began to weep at the romance of it.
"You have a lovely voice, Master Doryn," she said when she could speak. "Please sing something else."
//////////////
"i knew full well that Tybolt loved you, but I knew nothing of him or of his brother, save the little you had told me. Besides, I didn't want you to go. You should hever have had to do that. I was angry with Steffon because his actions drove you away and I thought only of getting you back."
She paused to draw breath.
"The girls will be ready, I promise you."

"I live to serve, milady." He replaced his flute in his coat pocket, and sang a capella, telling a story of a man who went to the darkest reaches of the underworld to save his father, only to find that he could save his father only at the price of never being able to leave.

"You didnt have to tell him." Mari said a little sadly. "Lord Oscar was a great man, and I am sorry that I trusted you with that secret."
"I will come before we go Joanna, the girls should be ready by then."
Marianne left before Joanna could say anything else to her.

"That's an interesting story," Joann said, still weeping at times. "What choice did the man make?"

"He chose his father's life over his own, to let the man who raised him, the man he loved, return to life at the cost of his own. Noble fool." He hung his head and chuckled softly. "I don't even know why I chose that story. It was never one I cared for."

"I liked it," Joanna said. "The tale intrigued me. You tell a good story as well as a song."

The bard bowed. "Thank you, milady. Would you like to hear another tale?"

"Of course, though I am curious as to whether you wanted something from me?"
