Horas shrugs. "Then it is simple. Persuade Lord Allard to bend the knee, admit his treason, and give up his claim to Casterly Rock. His grace will find a suitable regent for the West and Lord Allard may take his exile to the Wall."
"But if Lord Allard fails to do so it will come to war and he will die. I wish you the best of luck in convincing him, Lord Bettley. He has proven rather stubborn hencefar."

"I have already sent an envoy to Casterly Rock to ask for Allard's surrender, if he does surrender he shall be tried for treason, but his willingness to give up shall be taken into account and in all likely hood he shall be sent to the Wall. But if he doesn't...may the Father judge him justly, and the Mother grant him mercy."

Piers smiles sadly, "Well and good." Laughing sorrowfully he shakes his head, "I seem to still think I am a man of power and influence. When the reality I have shrunk to the size of my family's namesake."
Standing he bows deeply to his King, "My Grace, I beg your pardon. And I beg you protect Lady Elena Plumm. Is there any service I provide for you before I slink away to one of my smaller manors."

"I will not have you slink away into non existence, if all goes well you shall be my eyes and ears in the west. You will answer to none but my small council and I."

"My King, I am never going to return to the west. That cardinal point is the surest course for death and disaster that I could travel." Piers paused to laugh once, "And I would be lucky if it was I killed."
"No my grace, I wish to retire and farm with my wife Lilith." Piers cocked his head, "I will do as you ask, My King. But I beg you allow me to just fade away."

Callen shook his head, "You are too valuable Piers, Baldwin Lannister saw that, and used you against me. If you wish to see him avenged, work with me. If not in the west then stay here, work here, with the master of whisperers, or the master of coin, the choice is yours."

"See him avenged my King." Piers looked at the King confused, "Baldwin died of naturally causes there is no vengeance to seek."
Realization dawned in Piers' eyes, "You think Allard killed him. Allard seized power with an iron hand after Baldwin died, but Allard had no hand in my Lord's passing. I was there, I saw Baldwin's end. He was full of sadness and regret." Piers shakes his head sadly.

Callen gave Piers a hard look, "Do not lie to me Bettley, I know the fratricide commited by Allard, and the subsequent murders of several of Baldwin's court. I know you barely escaped with your life. You can thank the several Lannisters who have come to me seeking my protection, and Horas Blackwood's informants."

"My lord Allard did try and kill me. And he murdered Jayson Plumm, Bardwyn Doggett, and tried to kill Clegane too." Piers spread his hands wide. "I admit that freely, but I think he feared that I would try and run his father's land with those men. They were all close friends of mine."
"But he did not kill his father. Why would I say otherwise my King." Piers shrugged, "I was in the room when Baldwin died his last words were whispered to me. Allard was enraged by that. Any rumors you heard to the contrary are quite untrue. The only ones in the room were myself, Allard and Randwyn Lannister so only the three of us know the facts."

"And a certain sister to one of my Kingsguard, she was hiding in a cupboard at the time."

"He died in his bed chamber my grace. There are no cupboards in Lord Baldwin's bed chamber. You have been lied to." Piers shrugged apologetically.

Callen gave him an odd look. "Have it your way, but I don't see why Allard would have any need to kill his father's most trusted servants if Baldwin merely died in his bed. Believe me when I say this Bettley, every time you deny the nature of Baldwin's death you deny him. I will not be lied to." He signed some papers, "Regardless, we move against Casterly Rock in a weeks time. You will stay here in King's Landing for the time being, work with Horas and his whisperers, or with the master of coin."

Bowing gracefully Piers looked to the door, "My grace I will await your commands." Waiting a moment to make sure Callen was done Piers exits the council room.
