Joanna shook her head.
"It's not. It seems that she will not be marrying Lord Wylde now, but I know that she has a fancy for his brother. It is to be hoped that Steffon is willing to contemplate that match instead."

"Well then, I was thinking of proposing Lord Redfort to Steffon," Maekar said, brushing aside mention of Wylde's brother, "he is clearly a capable man, we would do well to tie his fortunes to the family's."

Joanna frowned.
"I cannot think of a better man to wed our sister but it won't do, Maekar. You and I have already tied our House to the Vale. We need no further ties. Besides, i think Steffon wants to cement ties with the Stormlands. I doubt he will agree to another marriage into the Vale. He's our brother, yes, but he tinks like a Baratheon, not a Targaryen."

"To his detriment," Maekar said.
"You make a valid point, though. Our family is in the two strongest houses in the Vale, it would be unwise to marry into a third. The lords of the Vale would see it as too much encroachment from the throne and the rest would feel slighted that their regions are given so little attention."

"Agreed. The decision is not ours to make, anywya," Joanna said. "Marianne trusts my cousel since we have alwyas been close but I am not sure how much of a say Steffon will give her in any case, so we may well have to sit tight and wait to see what happens."

Cotter Hill is moved to a dark basement room inside Maekar's manse and tied securely to a chair. A few hours later, Allya goes in with a lantern to check if he has woken up yet.

Cotter is dazed but awake, "Fuck you bitch." He growled at her.

"Ah-ahh," Allya said in a mock scolding tone as she put the lantern down in the corner of the room and moved over to him.
"Is that anyway to talk to a woman, Cotter?" she asked with a smile, moving in close to him.

He grinned at her, "Usually I use the back of my hand, so untie me and I will have a proper talk."

"Aren't you a big brave man, then?" she said with a smile and a wink. "Bet you're itching to just teach me what's what." She let out a pearl of laughter.
"Here's the deal, Cotter, we want to know a few things. Now, we can get you to answer the nice way," she said, moving in and kissing his neck, "or the not nice way," and she pulled away and brandished a dagger.

Cotter frowned, and sputtered, "What do you want?" His voice was cautious, but still harsh.

She moved around behind him, running her hand along his chest and then massaging the back of his neck softly.
"What gang do you work for Cotter?" She asked sweetly.

"Ah yes, I remember now. The Three Hills Gang, isn't it?" She giggled. "And who's the leader of the Three Hills?"
