"Disperse," Kenneth said drawing his sword and moving his horse forward in a feint towards the man approaching before reining him in.

The man shrieks and drops the letter into the dirt, swinging his stave with both hands.

Kenneth lets the bandits depart without pursuing and turns to the dwarf, "are you all right?" he asks.
"I think I broke a rib," Jonathon says.
"Well we can rest here then for the Night and continue to Honeyholt tomorrow then," Kenneth dismounts and then kneels down to pickup the paperwork the robbers had and check the body of the dead man.

The letter has writing on it, in a stylish calligraphy. Coyn makes out the word "toll," and "road" and "upkeep" and "authorized" but that is all. There is an elaborate signature at the bottom stamped by seal of yellow honeycomb wax, and the Beesbury sigil.

"That's a pretty good fake," Kenneth says handing the letter to Jonathon who took a look at the calligraphy.

The dwarf was pretty sure that this was how highlords wrote. If a someone had forged the letter, the forger was probably vastly more important than Kenneth or Biggs, probably as important as Beesbury.

"I don't know it looks pretty official," the dwarf says. "Perhaps we should not mention this to anyone."
"Or perhaps they took it off some of Beesbury's real men?" Kenneth hoped, "maybe take a look around to see if we can find any signs."
"Yeah or run away since those other two could run and get more?"
"Well we'll stay camped out here tonight and see what happens tomorrow." Kenneth finally says.

A quick scout around the area does not reveal the bodies of any Beesbury men-at-arms, or their bodies. On the man himself, Kenneth finds a pouch fairly well filled (For a small folk at least) with copper and silver coins.

Kenneth takes the coin sack and places it on his person and then prepares to make camp for the night.
//////////////////////////// The next morning Kenneth and Jonathon wake early. Kenneth examines the scene of the fight yesterday for more clues and then looks to see if he can follow the blood trail of the men that were wounded yesterday. [Beginner-Tracking]
"That letter looked pretty real but if they were really Beesbury's men wouldn't they have been in livery and better equipped?"
"You better learn to sound more convincing before our trial," the dwarf retorted as he helped in the search.

The trail of blood is not difficult to follow, and after what seems to be an hour or so, they reach a grove of trees, where one of the bandits, the one who lost his arm, is lying up against a tree, his eyes closed, his remaining arm resting on his stomach.

"Quiet," Ser Kenneth says as he stepped on a tree branch creating a loud snap.
"You should learn to follow your own advice," the Dwarf said as he looked around the grove for signs of the other man.

They do not see anyone else near by. If the bandit heard them, he is doing a very good job of pretending to still be asleep, for he does not move.

Kenneth draws his sword and proceeds into the grove and approaches the man slowly. He is most likely dead Kenneth thought, or wish he was as Kenneth moves to shake the man awake or if dead search his person.
Jonathon stays in the bush and is supposed to make the sound of a wounded bird if anyone approaches. The fact that Jonathon was not really sure what a wounded bird sounded like did not weigh on his mind when he suggested that course of action.

The man is indeed dead, likely having bled out some time ago, long before he reached this grove. Which means someone else had propped the body up. The thought made Kenneth nervous.

Kenneth searches the body for any indicators of who the man might be or where he was going. He also searches for traces of the other man with bleeding abdominal wound.
The Dwarf watches carefully from the grove, he clears his throat in case he has to warn Ser Kenneth.
