Eustace is sitting at the dining room table reading a letter. He holds a sheaf of letters in his hand. He does not notice the approach of Trant.

"Mi lord," Rowan says speaking softly so as not to startle Eustace who looked deep in thought.

"Yes Trant?" Eustace asked, as he looked up at the young lord from his letters. "How are you finding King's Landing? I hope your enjoying the sights, because I'm not certain you'll be getting your tourney any time soon."

Rowan frowned, "I heard, forget the Others, our kingdom needs saving from itself," he said shaking his head.

Eustace nodded with a wry smile, "Somethings don't change."

"So how do we get out of this mess? Surely war can still be avoided even if some have over reacted."

"Overreacted?" Eustace asked, turning his face to look at Trant, "How do you see the situation? You seem eager to explain, so by all means," He smiled, "go on."

Trant shook a little at what he took as a reprimand, "Lord Lannister is testing the waters, the queen makes a move and then he makes another one," Rowan says carefully.
"He had no doubt intended to say that his move was in compliance with the Queen's law. Your Uncle Lord Bryden would not have been part of a coup and Frey is well Frey."
"Instead of trying to defuse the situation, everyone is raising armies as quickly as they please and it strengthens Lannister's hand because it has the appearance that the Queen is scared of him and intends to be an aggressor against his "honest" mistake."

Eustace nodded, and raised the letters in his hand, "That's about the jist of what the Lords says as they seeks our support."

"Did they make any specific requests or err and grievances?" Rowan asked having not seen the letter.

"They want support for their cause, but are sounding me out before they commit to specifics. I have not heard from our Queen, although if my head says I should support Lannister, my heart leans towards supporting her grace. Such a dilemma."

"The queen just needs wise counsel and with your brother so withdrawn she has few to give her insight," Rowan said. "We are at a difficult crossroads the queen cannot accept Lannister's demands and Lannister can't accept her demands without losing face, what is needed is a compromise candidate."
"While the Lord Hand is a loyal and faithful man, he has been too long removed from Westerosi politics, the queen needs someone who knows the ways of the kingdom to guide her."
"I think you would be a good candidate my liege, you are loyal to your brother and his queen know the politics of the game and are respected on both sides. You should approach both sides and see if a compromise could be reached. Move Lord Dayne to another high office, give Lord Lannister a place on the small council and then suggest yourself as hand so that both sides do not feel like they lost a lot."
