Talyn arrived at the Grandmaester's chamber wearing a quilted black tunic with red stitching. He was toying idlely with a thread on the hem.
"Talyn Thatcher to see the grandmaester," he informed the nearest Acolyte.

The man smiled, "Go in and be quiet. He is holding a class."
Thorold has eight boys, and three girls sitting in a large circle around him. They are clearly the children of servants, not nobility. He walks among them holding a small slate he is using to demonstrate figures.
Thatcher is surprised that the children are laughing, but even he enjoys the tail end of the lesson. Thorold dismisses the children with, "Remember my band of young ruffians, in three days I will have a lesson on forming letters, and if you are not there, I will find and beat you with a large cod." He winked, and they giggled.
Thorold turned to Talyn and waited with a smile on his face.

Talyn smiled at the Grand maester.
"There is no task as important as the education of children," Talyn offered, as he gave a short bow, "We'll need a good maester at Harrenhal soon. There are many children there who need to be taught."

"I have heard." He nodded, "I know off two good men. Once just a teacher, but another fought in the battle so he can teach more then just figures and letters."

"I appreciate your help," Talyn said, "That would be very helpful. I apologize for changing subjects so quickly, but I wanted to ask you some questions, if you don't mind, about a rather esoteric subject. Have you heard anything about magic... that can bring the dead to life?"

"Are you talking of the Cult? It was widely rumored they had that power. I always thought it hogwash they propagandized to scare the rest of us out of our boots." Thorold replied.

Talyn scratched above his eyebrow with his index finger.
"Ah.. yes, I am referring to the Cult. And I had assumed it was nonsense, but lately I have been given some information which suggests that its not. If such a thing were possible... Do you have any idea how they would go about it?"

"Such a thing is impossible. There are stories and myths, but I doubt they are anything else. People can be scared into believing almost anything." Thorold shook his head, "We have enough breathing problems to worry about, before I would concern myself with the walking dead."

Talyn bit his tongue for a moment, "I am not asking solely for idle curiosity, so I beg you, humor me in this. Consider it a thought experiment. What texts would you read, if you were researching these claims? Who would you ask?"

Thoroldcupped his chin in deep thought, "I do not know the texts. I never had any interest in that Link. But the man I would speak too would be Archmaester Bartholomew."

Talyn nodded, "Thank you grandmaester. I appreciate the advice. On a more pleasant subject, do you have any texts on the subject of educating children between five and twelve? I should like very much to borrow one."

"Those I have several of." He turned and walked toward a door. Opening it he beckoned for Thatcher to follow him. In the next room is a small impromptu library. He walked around and grabbed five texts on the subject and handed them to Thatcher. They were quite heavy, "Enjoy" He said with a doubtful smile on his face.

Talyn grunted, "You could get a quite a work out with these," he quipped, "Well I thank you, if you could have one of your acolytes open the door for me, I'd appreciate it."

Thorold opened the door himself, and said, "You take on a noble task Thatcher. Such a benevolent act of charity will never go forgotten."
