The House of Arryn arrives, late in the evening, but such is life with children. Lord Rhodri Arryn is dressed as Rhodri Redspear -- no mask, but his beard is shaved, he wears a fake hand secured by a glove, wears a flamboyant version of the House Royce colors and carries a five foot version of his once famous spear. His wife, the Lady Becca, is dressed in a gown of dragon scales, and her mask, a foot both across and tall, mimics the face of a commanding serpent.
They are joined by a boy with a hand carved mask of wood.

For the first time, Aranya's face comes close to lighting up. She walks over to greet them.

"I don't think our greenland ways are as weak as some," Aranya smiled. "Although the riverlanders are quite weak, the way they chased you back to sea. Your boy might get steel and fire in his veins, though he might not get the salt. "Or you could send him to Highgarden, and he'd come back with wine coming out of his teats and bread from his arse. Nice rosy bread." Balor smiled thinly at Aranya. "Chased me back to the sea is it? I could have stayed and fought and bled them badly for it. I may even have burned their pathetic huts around them and butchered them all before the other armies arrived, but I did not see any further profit to be made for me & mine. As for Urri" Balor shrugged slightly "My firstborn is back, thanks to the Drowned God, and Urri will have to earn whatever place he achieves amongst my people. I hope he does. It will not be with rosy bread however" he smiled and showed his teeth, but there was no mirth in it.

Aranya looked faintly amused. "To tell the truth, I was rather cheering you on at the time. I think your Urri will have to find a life here, perhaps. You have to be raised to the Iron Isles' ways, don't you?" She excused herself when she saw other guests approaching.

Balor looked for a few seconds at Aranya's retreating back and then forced a smile and turned to join the other guests.

For the first time, Aranya's face comes close to lighting up. She walks over to greet them. Rhodri embraces his cousin and says, "I believe the young man would enjoy a dance," pushing the masked boy forward.

Aranya's mouth twitched. "Children at a ball? We'll have to let Petra and Rhae dance after this. I saw them huddled in a corner a little while ago. Does this little sapling like to dance?" She ruffled the masked boy's hair.

"He would not be left behind," the Redspear says. "Now dance with your aunt, little weirwood."
Yohn awkwardly steps forward and offers his hands.

Aranya smiled, took Yohn's hands and led him in the dance. "How have you been, nephew?"

The voice behind the wooden mask replies, "A dance is strange... I think the septa sister danced with the bravo knight. Will they dance again?"

The Redspear and the Mother Dragon dance together, elegantly stepping in time with the musicians.

Some instinct told Aranya what he meant. "I haven't been replying to Elane's letters," she said, feeling a twinge of guilt. She had not been able to speak of Selwyn or herself to anyone, except the moments before she beheaded Lance Sands - or rather, the man who wore his mask.
"She has a bravo knight?" Aranya tilted her head. "I had an idea of that once when I was writing in my room. I don't know, Yohn. I would be amazed if Elane actually fell for a man. She has been so guarded and prim all her life." She spun him around and smiled teasingly. "I didn't know little weirwoods cared about things like that."

"The septa sister shares your soul. If you can feel passion, so can she," Yohn says, displaying an odd maturity, not to mention prescience. "The Old Gods see and watch all, so must I."

Aranya danced silently for a while. "I will not feel passion again."

"Perhaps you should give your passion to her, then," Yohn says. "Make it her turn."
