Hosted by Aranya and Lilith at the Bettleys' manse, the masquerade ball is held in celebration of the end of the war and Callen's victory, and in honor of the heroes of the war. It is held after Princess Caitlyn's and Barret's marriage and before the upcoming tournament.
The guests arrive in costume and are masked. Minstrels up in the gallery of the ballroom floor play rousing music to elaborate dances.

Aranya was dressed as a Black Ear, wearing a black mask. She had a necklace of real ears, and wore the clothing that the Black Ear women wore.
She seemed to give each of the guests burning glances, but when she spoke her voice was calm and quiet.
Rhae, Brynden and Lewyn were brought back into the city at Aranya's concern. Upstairs in the children's rooms, armed Duskendale guards watched over the children. Rhae was happy to see Petra again.

Lilith was also in black but highlighted by silver, dressed a shimmer of spider webs with a large spider brooch in the middle and a spider mask on her face.
She was much more cheerful than her cohostess and greeted all her guests with glee, the costumes she saw were wonderful, her favorites so far being a dragon, a piece of the wall, and a wolf.

Aranya was the only woman who did not wear a formal gown, but dressed as a wildling, with a sharpened axe at her belt, seemed to be the only way she was comfortable. Her belly swelled gently under her doeskin vest. The black mask did not extend lower than the bridge of her nose.
As she prowled through the lines of guests, each noble seemed to be more gorgeous than the last. She passed three Good Queen Alysannes, one man dressed as a Valyrian dragonlord of old, a glittering Free City Prince, a bravo who seemed to want to wear a Westerosi longsword, and a girl who whispered that she was meant to be Jenny of Oldstones. All of them wore beautifully decorated masks, and were drinking and laughing when they weren't dancing.
Aranya's face was expressionless as she nodded in response to greetings. After she made a round, she gruffly told Lilith that she wore a nice gown.

Two men enter the masquerade. The first wears a handsome raven costume, with a cloak of shiny black feathers that catch the light as he moves. The man's mask is elegantly crafted, with more raven feathers and a beak that extends over his nose.
The second man wears an outfit made of checked silver and gold, with a full mask checked in the same manner. He wears a longsword at his hip.

Piers Bettley enters the Ball dressed in an elegant Blue silk gown, whose train trailed several feet behind him, he wore a mask of a seeming startled maiden, with a devilish wink.
Escorting him in is Elena Plumm clad in the armor of the Dragonknight, along with with a replica of his famous blade. She walks in and then leads him in a dance.

Lord Lyas Bolton enters and his costume honors his own house. He seems to be wearing some one else's skin over his armor. His men assure people that it is merely decoration and not a real person. He remains quiet on the manner.

Several lords and knights who have just returned from the war to the north come clad in duplicate golden masks of Lance Sands.

Aranya almost smiles when she sees the Goldfaces. His fame has grown.
She asks each of the Goldfaces to dance, glancing at the man in black.
Her smile widens when she glances over her shoulder at Piers.

Half of them comply with her request. The other half look uncomfortably at her swelling bely and reply that they have pressing business on the other side of the room and uncomfortably hurry off.

Aranya coolly dances with half the Goldfaces. She moves with a catlike grace, despite being pregnant. Her eyes flash again towards the man in black as the Goldfaces spin and twirl her.

A man enters clad in black with an ornate gold, fullface mask in the form of a kraken. It's tentacles spread out in all directions, curling in and out of each other. He is followed by another older man wearing traditional boiled leather sailing clothes with a lumniscent mother-of-pearl, half face mask.

Randal arrives, dressed in purest black plate mail and a black cloak. In stark contrast, he wears a red and gold lions mask and a deep red chainmail.

Aranya greets the raven, kraken and lion.
Then she walks up to the man in black and asks him to dance.
