"You are here uninvited, at the Queen's private feast," Mally said sweetly. "However, I am not as ungracious as you. Feel free to have some wine. You might see the nobles more clearly."

"No matter that, Mally. Welcome Captain Nathan, enjoy your stay in King's Landing. I'm sure Lord Tallahar will have important work for your men in the coming days and weeks. We are still under threat from Braavos, afterall, and I'm sure your men will be prove necessary to defend us, the weaker sex of the city."
"Have you been introduced to our Lord Ambassador from Lys? You should make his acquaintance; he knows much of our dangerous foes."

Mally turns to Lady Becca. "When will the Hand return to the city, my lady?"

"The Hand will return shortly, I hope, Lady Mally, as soon as he has finished some business at the Eyrie. They have already interred his brother at Runestone."
"As for men of the Vale, they'll either listen to me in battle or get my boots up their backside, Captain. I do not suffer fools and I do not suffer discontent. I am the daughter of a Marcher Lord, and the Hand's men know what that means."

"Good then you have my respect. Also would you know where to find the Captain of the Fleet remaining at Kings Landing?"

"The Hand's brother?" Mally's brow wrinkled slightly as she frowned in thought. "There was Lord Breyn, I remember, unless...oh yes, I remember. The Bastard of Runestone. He was well known in the valley."

"Lord Peyton is here in the city, Redwyne. He is in charge of the fleet and has his quarters in the Red Keep. Jahaerys Velaryon of the Gold Cloaks, Lord Warren Blackwood of the Riverlands, and Lord Robar Hunter all have roles in the defense of the city."

Becca Arryn rises gracefully and departs the festivities.

Spinning a gold chain around his fingers own way until it is tight, and then unspinning it off his fingers, Piers Bettley entered the room. Wearing his finest blue and golds. The master of coins is flanked by Falatir Razoon, Lysian ambassador and merchant lord. Razoon is dressed in the latest fashion of Lys, made of silks and laces. The two walk to the queen and bow deeply in turn, each kissing her hand and giving her two presents for her children. Then smiling warmly the two men backed away. Looking about Piers noticed Aerie Blackwood, he immediately approached her. Falatir followed after Piers, but managed to make intimate eye contact with every beautiful women at the feast. Piers asked Aerie, "How was your trip dear girl? Captain Dakken and I are old friends and he wrote the most interesting letter about your travels together. Also I should tell you, that a young man who once worked for me has come back home. He mentioned your name too." Aerie’s eyes narrowed and her arms crossed defensively across her chest. “Must you always bury your nose in the business of others, Lord Piers?” she said dryly, appearing vastly bored. “My trip went fabulously. The scenery was picturesque and I certainly was in need of the fresh air. “Do you mean the friend with the lovely hands? He caused me a fair bit of trouble, to be honest. I wonder what convinced him to return home.” The question was obvious in her voice. “He seemed rather content where he was, or so I thought.”

Various of the local merchants entered, pleased to have been invited to the ball, Ser Arguel Flowers and his fair wife and their niece Tilda prominent among them. They greeted the queen with deep bows and curtsies and then went among the crowd. "Nice to see you looking so well, Mally," said Tilda to her sister, both amazed and relieved to find her sister with an honorable occupation.
Shajura also entered, and paid her respects to the queen. She then found herself being questioned by the obnoxious Captain Nathan. While she was perfectly happy to ruin Mally's party, she disliked this rude and blustering fool so was disinclined to answer his questions.

"I'm glad you could come," Mally said to Tilda. "I wanted you to have a good time. Try the roast partridge."
Mally saw Shajura and bowed her head with a smile. "Welcome. You look lovely, as usual."
