This road splits off from the Kingsroad at the Trident crossing, and runs up into the Vale, through the Mountains of the Moon, leading up to the Eyrie via the Bloody Gate. Mountain Clansmen roam freely in this area, making it somewhat dangerous to traverse, at least for small groups of people.

Three hundred horsemen ride out of the Bloody Gate, heading south toward the Riverlands, where they turn southeast after crossing the Trident River. Outriders and Scouts screen the movements of the small army, half a day's ride in all directions ensuring that they will not be taken by surprise.

After a grueling trip up the Kingsroad and the High Road, Aaron arrives at the Bloody Gate, followed by nine men, all of them exhausted and their horses near death. The Bloody Gates are barred behind them and Aaron proceeds up into the Vale at a slightly less demanding pace.

Seven thousand men of the Vale's Vanguard snake their way down the High Road, heading toward the Trident River. Lord Aaron Royce rides at the head of the column, flanked by Lord Jaymes Corbray and the Knight of Ninestars.
