As the man fell, Aranya felt his dead weight dragging her buried sword down, and yanked it free. The corpse collapse, bloody in the dust.
She looked at Jamie grimly. "These were easy. If more are coming, we're in deep shit."

Aranya suddenly seemed to become aware of Aerie as the girl rode up. She gave her a measured look of appraisal. "Good work," she said coolly, sounding almost like a teacher.
OOC: It's all Aranya mom-ing...

"There are a hundred or so about. But I kept splitting my twenty to dilute their numbers. I just hope some one gets to the fucking King." He cleans his blade on the corpse of a dead man, "This is 'Shit' Orryn. He was a lousy fuck bag. Damn am I pissed I had to kill him."
Selwyn charges out of the inn weapons drawn, looking about.

“I hope I did not slow you down,” she replied with equal coolness, carefully wiping the blood on her sword with the shirt of the cleanest corpse she could find. “You did not do so bad yourself.”

"Wait, wait, wait," Aranya said, dismounting and staring hard at Jamie. "Explain to me why no northern lords or river lords or anyone else saw this moving army and didn't stop it."
When Selwyn came out, Aranya looked over at him and said, "You've missed some interesting things." And she told him what had happened.

"There is war in the North. Some Lords sided with Wull, and he has grabbed a large number of fucking hostages. Many houses fell in line when he tortured Lady Bolton and her three children to death." Bracken spit into the dust, and noticed Aerie, "So who is this; your sister? You both fight like Rhynor queens."

"War in the north?" Aranya looked disturbed by that. "We need to ride to the Great Council. The King and Lord Stark must know of this at once. Why don't they?"
Aranya threw Jamie a look. "I told you, this is Aerie Blackwood."

Bracken stiffened just a hair, "Well thank you for saving my life. If you lovely chits had not been there I would be dead right now."
Egg limps over to the group, an arrow sticking out of his leg. He has fetched the two Black Brother's horses.

Aerie regarded the man with deep distaste, but apprehension fluttered in her heart. Everywhere, houses were in turmoil, grappling for power and support that was not there. This situation would have to be dealt with deftly before it spiraled further out of control.
“What a pity that would be,” Aerie said vaguely, no hint of rancor in her voice. I haven’t forgotten how your idiot Lord Bracken tried to divide the Riverlands, you bloody hypocrite.

"We owe you thanks," Aranya said. "At least one black brother has some sense. You know, when I first went to the Shadow Tower, Wull almost convinced me that you were a malignant virus spreading distrust and disloyalty throughout the Night's Watch." She shook her head and ran a hand through her dark hair. "Wull never showed signs of Wendwater's madness. And war..." her mouth set grimly.
"This will have to be attended to."

Aranya clapped Egg on the shoulder. "Well done, man. You saved my life with that arrow."

"Yes Lord Commander Mudd ordered me to lead the men south. They have launched an invasion of the Vale. Sands is landing at Gulltown and is going to lead five hundred men to help the mountain clans rise up. They already have Winterfell, White Harbour and Moat Cailin. The Dreafort still stands, but has been besieged for months." Bracken looked north and frowned.

"WHAT?" Aranya yelled. She caught Jamie by the collar and shook him hard. "The Vale? How can they attack the fucking Vale?"

Aerie began systematically wringing the blood from her clothes, lingering on Aranya and Bracken’s exchange. War. I’ve had enough of that. She checked Anarchy for any injuries above the minor scrapes, and, once satisfied, peered over Aranya’s more disheveled looking courser from a distance. He had clearly been ripping out too many throats. Horses were not meant to fight like that.
She winced when Aranya blew up. First it had been Aerie's fear for the Riverlands, and now it was Aranya's worry for the Vale. War destroys us. How could it have spread this far without Callen knowing?
"How the hell did it get this bad without the King realizing it?"

"They have the Northern Fleet and the Smaller one I had at Eastwatch. I should have sunk those vessels before I left. Don't worry they can not hold the vale, I don't think. Sands is a fucking master of Battle. He is the reason the war has moved so swiftly." I think they just want to slow reinforcements." Bracken resheathed his sword.
