Aerie realized the man was annoying. “Oh shut up. No one’s going to torture you unless you keep up your incoherent prattle.” She finally finished her task. “Can you throw these idiots into a cell for right now, Jon? I want to help you find Taria, but I do not think the answer lies with them.” Aranya stood out clearly in her mind now. Fuck, I should’ve been nicer to her! Now she will set a price. Aerie cursed her luck. What a bitch.

"Right. A cell for each of them," Jon says. "They won't be seeing the sun any day soon."

Two ravens… “And can your Watch try to be a little more…watchful? I, umm, think whoever is playing this game is finished, but no one can be certain.” Two. Is Taria dead? “We don’t need another accident.”

"I'm not sure I run the watch anymore. The Lord Stark blustered about taking my cloak, and then I rode with Callen to the war that never happened. So I return not knowing whether or not I am still Lord Commander."
"I'd say your cousin Horas needs his ears a little closer to the ground. You would think the Master of Whispers would know who was plotting so incessantly against his own family."
"But aye, if I still run the watch, some things will change."

Aerie sighed in vexation. Neither Jon nor Benjen Stark seemed to be doing a terribly good job with the Watch. First her father’s murder and now this abduction? Are we safe even now? “Things certainly need to change,” she said ambiguously, adjusting the sword at her hips to give her hands something to do. I’m the King’s Justice, but where am I needed the most? Jon had one thing right: She needed to speak to Horas. Perhaps he knew more than he let on.
“I’m assuming you took care of Black Finger?” she said finally.

"Black Finger? What of him?" Jon asks. His men are starting bundle up the prisoners for transit.

Aerie looked at him incredulously. “Did you take care of him? That man and his gang have to be behind half the crimes in King’s Landing.” She remembered Alyssa’s sullen anger the day she had encountered him. It was her who provided Aerie with most the information she knew. The woman knew her way around the streets. “You are supposed to be apprehending men such as him, remember?”

"I might remind you I have been in the Westerlands for some months. But Dane is but one of many toughs in the streets. I hear Thorne has been running them ragged."

“If I recall correctly, I spoke to you about Black Finger before you left for the Westerlands,” she replied with some irritation. “Of course he is one of many, but that fact is not bringing any of them to justice.” She was just so frustrated. There were so many gangs, so much violence, and recent events about made the situation maddening. Someone was picking off Blackwoods, yet men like Black Finger and Thorne still remained curled up safely in their cubbyholes. Something had to be done. How were they going to get Taria back? She’s dead. She felt at sword at her side. She wanted justice. She wanted heads.
“I suggest you figure out whether you are still in charge of the abysmal Watch, and, if you are, start filling cells.” She paused, hesitant, perhaps a bit sympathetic. “Don’t worry yourself too much over Taria. She will be found.” She wouldn’t because she was dead, but Aerie did not think it would have been overly kind of her to say that.

With that, she gave Jon’s arm a reassuring squeeze, smiled to Tully, and excused herself. She needed Marina, and, consequently, Alyssa.
