Maekar Blackfyre wore a grim expression. Rhaenys would not be happy when she found out what had happened.
"If Tarly is responsible, he will be made to pay," he said. "The Queen has made it clear that she'd have no killing that is not necessary. Keep your heads cool, my friends. It will serve no purpose to get angry and lay blame outside of the proper place."

Aegon glared at Blackfyre and said icily.
"In future Maekar, you do not presume to act for me. Neither do you instruct other lords.....", he stabbed a finger at Borcas Redwyne, ".......to commandeer my men. Any orders from Rhaenys as to the disposition of the men for battle, you clear it with me first. At all times.
"Had I not been in time to intervene, then matters may have been much worse."

"Worse than her Master of Laws starting a war and losing in the process? I doubt it, Prince. Now, why did you sound the recall, if I may ask?"
And all this just because Rhaenys did not have Ariel's head the moment she did not kneel...

Ser Gerald had observed the farce from safe distance. "Sense." he grumbled to himself. "They need some." With that, he left the scene.

Aegon turned his icy gaze on Redwyne.
"Why do you think? Our forces were divided, because of your impetuous actions in leading only half of my men into battle. I did as any prudent commander would do under the circumstances and joined my forces to combat a possible enemy."

Borcas narrowed his eyes.
"This was not war, Prince. Ser Maekar urged me to bring men to the Queen, as her life might have been in danger. The men are yours, of course, but you were nowhere to be seen. And I had an order. In the Sea, where I was raised, when you have an order you fuckin' obey or you fuckin' die. I am sorry if I acted in haste, but I did the best I could with the situation at hand."

Aegon made a show of looking about the field.
"The Queen? I don't see my cousin anywhere on this field. If you were ordered by...." he snorted in contempt at the name, "...Ser Maekar to protect the Queen, why aren't you with her? And my men that you took, presumably to protect the Queen, what are they doing here?
He moved his eyes to where the dead lay.
"And not war you say? By my rough count thirty or so men are dead. One of them, I'm informed, is Lord Hightower. They're men we could ill-afford to lose at this stage of our quest to rescue Westeros from the clutches of the Cult."

"Ask your cousin, Prince." Borcas smirked.
"I acted under direct orders from Queen Rhaenys herself. As for the mess here, well, when I arrived I saw Tarly's men fighting with wildlings. I don't know about what, but when you arrive in the middle of a battle, you don't have time to ask questions."

Aegon wheeled his horse.
"Ask my cousin? That I surely will."
He turned to Ser Maekar Velaryon.
"Tarly and the Reachmen have fled. Take thirty of our men. Find Hightower's body. Bear it with all honor to Castle Black and have it laid out in state. I will accompany it myself.
Aegon began to ride off, but then reined his horse in to speak to Ser Maekar Velaryon again.
"Tell your father to organise a burial detail for the dead Reachmen. Allow the wildings to see to their dead. Return the rest of the men to our camp. Other than the Queen, no-one else is to enter the camp without my express permission. That 'no-one else' includes Ser Maekar and any other lord he may see fit to invest with the command of my soldiers."
Aegon nods to the lords present and rides off.

Rask watches the southrons squabble. All a game to them, isn't it? The scarred man spits then returns to the camp. He seeks out the fifteen wildlings who ran to his aid in the battle.
"You boys fought well," Rask says, "You fighting for anyone?"
Lord Hightower's body is unmolested, though he is missing any jewelry he might have been wearing and strangely, someone has cut away a strip from the hem of his cloak.

Gargath the Elder shook his head, "Nah... we just hate steel shirts."

Rask barks a short laugh, but not with much humor. "You're welcome to camp with me and mine. My mead and food is yours. You've done me a boon, and I would return the favor."

Gargath smiles, "I like mead, and favors. Especially red stringy ones." He and his men walk over to the fire and look for mead.
