Selwyn studied the back of his hand. The unscarred remnants of his face emotionless, "Name what you will. There should be a permanent solution for any who claim titles that are not theirs."

The queen considered both suggestions for a while.
"I will consider naming Selwyn Lord Protector when we are married, but not the rest. You're right about Lady Ariel, of course. I will ensure that she is dealt with."
She gave Simon a significant look that warned him to hold his tongue in company.
"Lord Marbrand, I would be most grateful if you searched the library here at Castle Black. Although I intend to negate the threat of Lady Ariel, one way or another, I would still like to know where she stands in my house genealogy."

Rhaenys dismissed the council but held back Selwyn and Kyma.
"Selwyn, will you come and see my in my chambers later please? I would speak to you of military matters. Kyma, I'd like a word now,."

Selwyn nodded and headed for her chambers.
Kyma turned to stare at her sister. A single fiery eye brow arched, "You going to offer me a seat in your council sister? Or apologize for the slight of not offering me one?"

"No. It is my council and I must make the appointments as I see fit. I have yet to find a role suited to you, Kyma, though I will be sure you offer you a post if I find one that I think you'd take. I wished to talk to you about a different matter, as it happens."

Kyma smirked, "I do not truly wish to serve in any of the posts. And do not you dare presume to give me a post before I agree to take it." She placed her hands her hips and tilted her head, "Yes?"

Rhaenys raised her eyes skywards. Kyman had ever been the most difficult of her sisters.
"Why complain when I don't give you a post when you don't even want one?"
She steeled herself for a difficult conversation.
"I have come to speak to you about marriage."

Kyma stared at her, she tried to conceal a smile but it slowly covered her face, "I know our ancestors of old would marry brother to sister, Rhae, but sister to sister." She cocked her head and studied her sister before adding, "I will not say I am not tempted, but I must, regretably, refuse."

Rhaenys had to laugh at the comment and, strangely, it made her feel better about a conversation she'd been dreading.
"Very funny, Kyma. No, I have someone in mind for you. What would you say to a Lannister?"

Kyma's eyes blazed, "I would say, 'How are you Ser? It is a pleasure to have met you. No we have never met, but I hear you can give my sister a great deal of gold. So much she is willing to sell you one of her sisters." Her mouth snapped shut with a loud clack.

Rhaenys put a hand on her sister's shoulder.
"It wouldn't be like that. I would never expect you to marry a man without meeting him first. I want this alliance, though. There are...diplomatic reasons for it, besides the fact that we need to bind the wealthiest house in the realm to us. Ser Owen Lannister is nobly born and handsome and he seemed a good man when I met him. His father has disappeared but is most likely dead. Once we have confirmation of that, Ser Owen will be Lord of Casterly Rock. Come, don't fight it. We must all do our duty, no matter how hard it is."

Kyma's eyes turned to slits, "Well he sounds like a golden reward. I just wish the reward was mine and not yours." She looked away and then when she turned her gaze back to her sister she said, "I will meet with him." She looked like she had just swallowed poison, and bad tasting poison at that.

Rhaenys swallowed. She felt guilty about what she'd just done, even though it was necessary.
"My road is harder than yours, I believe. Owen is fairer to look upon than Selwyn and has a more open nature. You might even like him."

Rhaenys spots Halliron Oakheart in the great hall and beckons him over to her.
"Lord Oakheart, a word?"

"Of course, Your Grace." he answered her question. "What can I do to help you?"
