"We'll all go mad without hope," she told him.
She looked at his scarred face and knew that it was best to confront the situation head on. After a moment she steeled herself, leaned forward and kissed him.

Selwyn's eye opened with surprise. He initially jerked away, but then settled in and kissed her back. The disfigured portion of his face, and the fact he did not seem particularly interested in kissing her detracted from his overall performance.

She pulled away in disappointment, having hoped that he would be a bit more responsive.
"I hope you'll do better when we're married. I know we're not very well acquainted but we both need to work to make the marriage work."

Selwyn blinked, and his cheeks colored, "Better" His eye focused on her disappointment, "Perhaps I was merely surprised." His hand reached out behind her head smoothly, and he pulled her into a strongly fierce kiss. All of his angry passion is channeled into this kiss, and he holds it for a long time before releasing her. In a flash the emotion drains from his eye, and he studies her intently.

"Much beter," Rhaenys said, with approval.
Her face was flushed and she was surprised by the intensity of the kiss.
"Put that much effort into our campaign and our personal life and we will do very well together. We will have the announcement made as soon as possible. Our people should know of our closeness. It will give them hope. Our marriage will take place at Winterfell, unless you object?"
Her voice made it clear that she genuinely wanted his opinion of the suggestion.

"No, Winterfell will be quite acceptable." Selwyn replied, his lip curved mysteriously again.

"Good."
She disliked his expression; it was not good for them to have secrets from one another.
"What are you thinking? We must be honest with one another, Sewlyn."

Selwyn stared at her, "Perhaps in time we will become comfortable enough to share everything."

"I'd hope so, but we must make a start somewhere, and sooner rather than later. You must see that, surely?"

Selwyn shifted his hand and scratched at the burned, ruined skin on the left side of his face, "I believe there was been a start. We must plot a course through the unknown, there is no need to dash madly, behave recklessly."

"Nor do I wish to," Rhaenys answered. "I know this will be difficult for both of us, as our situation will reverse the usual order of things with regard to men and women, but that is the way it is. We'll manage, somehow. I'm prepared to trust you in all matters pertaining to the army since I myself am more warrior than general. In the meantime, I must needs appoint my Small Council and Queensguard and I would really like to have it settled by the time we reach the Wall. Have you any candidate you can recommmend for either?"

Selwyn's hand tightened and he laid it down on the table, "I know of several men who would be good at many of the seats. Yet there are my men." He paused before continuing, "It would make you appear stronger if you choose people loyal to yourself, or men whom did not come from my inner circle."

"Perhaps, but the same might be said if I choose only people from my own inner circle. I would like a mixture of men so that I am seen to be even-handed and I don;t wish your loyal men to think I do not regard them. So, name your names, Selwyn, and I will consider them."

"Ser Barelston Musgood is a masterful Quartermaster. He was the most important single man in the army for the whole march." Selwyn replied, "Groomsmen is a natural leader, and Warrior. Yew could be an able member of court. He likes to talk." Selwyn closed his mouth tight, and studied her.

"I will think about it<" Rhaenys promised. "Your man Musgood might be a consideration for the role as Master of Coin. As for Groomsmen, well, I could use a good man on my Queensguard if he is willing to embrace a life of obedience and celibacy. I know not what to suggest for Yew, though, unless he has a care to be seneschal. Of course, there are my own men to consider still, and many of the high lords of Westeros may want to see themselves or their kin with places at Court. I cannot please everyone but I will do my best."
