King Rodrick Baratheon continued his bad reign for ten more years. If none of the lords dared challenge his strength any more, they became lackadaisical in their support of their liege. Slow to answer his call, and slow to pay their taxes. He grew ever fatter, his wife practically left him spending her time in the Stormlands as he fucked his way through half the broads in Kings Landing.
It was at this point the Long Winter began. The Long Winter probably saved the rule of Rodrick, for Lords had begun to speak of open revolt, and the snows stamped them down. Seven long years of frigid snows followed. Rodrick became so dazed by drink, and laziness that his new hand Thadeus Thatcher began to rule the kingdom for him.
The Others came south with their army of dead in the seventh year. The Northmen under the Leadership of Lord Karstark, and the commander of the Night's Watch Kijo Sand fought valiantly. In a holding maneuver they slowly fell back waiting for help to come. There help would be very late in coming.
The Cult of the Dead God had plotted for many years for this day, and acted. All across the realms cities burned, and the King and Queen were murdered in their beds the very night the others came south. Legendary generals, and warriors died all across the realms in their keeps, all unaware that the battle of the age had started.
The Crown prince was almost killed the same night as his mother. He managed to kill his attacker, but his left eye was burnt out. King Selwyn was so gravely injured it allowed Thatcher to remain in command for months. He refused to let troops go north, claiming it a lie and trick.
The first aid the North received was from a surprising source. The Ironborn sent ships north losing a quarter of their fleet and those that made it ashore were trapped in the north for the rest of the winter unable to free their ships from the ice flows that formed behind them.
The riots and rebellions the Cult had started were hard to put down, and by the time they had been ended. Thatcher commanded that the all the lands call up their forces, and then claimed the west was in open rebellion. He ordered they other realms to march, and they were met hostilely. The West defended itself, and was almost crushed between the Reach and the Riverlanders.
The others marched south, and defeated the Vale in an army that knocked them back into their mountain homes. Word of the others reached the rest of the realms, and they looked north. Selwyn went to King's Landing to find it securely in the hands of Cult of whom Thadeus was a member. He just escaped with his life.
King Selwyn the Scarred gathered his people and began to truly resist the Other's hordes. That very day though Salvation arrived far to the south. Eighteen large ships full of men, and Saella Arryn and her four daughters. They brought three dragons and now called themselves Targaryens.
The King's forces were brushed aside, but Saella and Horas Martell marched north. Horas had studied his father's arcane arts secretly, and now he used them at Saella's side. When they arrived at Goldengrove they threw back a massive army that had cornered the remnants of Selwyn's army. Selwyn saw Saella and kneeled to her, knowing that only she could save his people.
Together with Saella, Selwyn and Horas Martell leading they fought their way all the way back to the Wall itself, and beyond. There was one last final battle, above the wall where Saella fell destroying the Others in dragon fire, and the heat of the fiery sword.
