A raven arrives from Dorne,
To King Callen Baratheon, Lord of the Six Kingdoms etc.,
I hope things are getting easier in King's Landing, though I fear they may not be.
Regardless, I presume you have heard that Lannister claims an alliance with Dorne; this is not the case. We support Lannister's desire for justice, and for reparation from the Crown, but we do not support a Lannister King. For all our disagreements, a Stag on the throne is much easier on Dorne than a Lion would be.
Now, to business matters. One of Aemon's old Kingsguard, Ser Timm Vikary has turned up, of all places, in Dorne. He has stated to me that he does not wish to serve a Stag King, and I have accepted his decision and offered him asylum within my lands.
I hope to marry him to Lady Arielle Dayne, and name him my Sword of the Morning; this will require that the Septon of the Tower release him from his vows as a Kingsguard. I thought it best to at least inform you of the matter, as you appear to be picking yourself a new Kingsguard anyway.
Do keep yourself alive, Your Majesty. I'd hate to have to go through the trouble of another game of musical castles if you died.
Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken Emelia Nymeros Martell, Princess of Dorne, the Sun of the Rhoynar and Protector of the Realm

Elane ascended the steps to the rookery to find a raven waiting for her. She summoned the bird over, and took the letter from it's leg. Well, good news from Dorne at last, she thought. She went back to the throne room, carrying the letter.

Maester Reed bumbled up the stairs, his apprentice Lancel in tow. "But I don't want to do it again!" The boy protested. "Dear boy, I can assure you that this time the wings will not collapse. Oh Lady Royce! What a pleasant surprise!"

"Maester Reed," Elane said pleasantly. "What is the problem? What...wings?"

"Oh just the latest of my experiments. You see?" He pulled out a scroll that showed a contraption with multiple wings on the top attached to a chain, arrows pointed in a circle, indicating that the wings rotated. "I believe that if I, well if Lancel can catch the right wind currents we might finally be able to put my helicopter into action."

"A heli...copter?" Elane felt bemused. "How...interesting...er, could you - explain this to me, maester? I'm afraid I don't quite understand, but I would very much like to."

"Ah yes you see the mechanics are quite simple you see..." And from there Maester Reed went on a tirade about the helicopter, showing Elane drawings, and notes, all the while Lancel quietly slipped out of the room. From helicopters it went to different topics. Stuff on his inventions (in particular the bicycle, Maester Reed was still rather bitter about Callen leaving it behind), "I'm particularly enthusiastic about the toaster, think about all the applications it could have!" was one of the funnier statements. From there it went on to nature, Reed showed Elane his sketches and drawings of birds, mammals, and reptiles.

Elane was feeling dazed and overwhelmed, simultaneously amused by the maester and actually intrigued by what he was saying. Soon she was exclaiming along with him. "But this is genius!" she cried, looking over the bicycle drawing. "Genius! Maester, what do they teach in the Citadel? Where do you get such ideas...look at THIS!" She snatched up detailed anatomical drawings of animals. "Beautiful!" Her face was flushed; she had never been so excited in her life. "Maester, we need more people like you!"

Reed beamed at her, looking over the spectacles he had invented. It had been the first time in his life someone had actually taken him seriously. "I could teach you if you wish." He said with a smile on his face.

"Would you?" Elane cried, clapping her hands. "I would love to learn! You have such strange and fantastical ideas!"

"Strange?! They are not strange girl! Anything but! It's science! It's the most natural thing in the world!" Said Vinci Reed as though he were making a speeching. It was highly amusing considering his crannogman height of 5'3".

"Do you learn these things in the Neck?" Elane asked eagerly. "Is it old knowledge that's been hoarded by greenseers?" What am I saying? she thought to herself. Greenseers?! I know better than that. But this little man is so clever...and his enthusiasm so infectious!

"Of course not! The greenseers have mutch more pressing business." He said, as though it were obvious. "One gains knowledge and then must use it to further knowledge! In my case I learned in the Citadel, but once out I knew it was my duty to further that which we already know!"

"We must explore these strange things together!" Elane said excitedly. "Perhaps the knowledge of the greenseers lends to your work! In our spare time away from the king, we must work on this!"
