The riders take off in a frenzy, the huge numbers of horses on the field cause problems for even the most experienced riders on the track. Ser Norbert of Ramsbridge, Ser Loren Mallery and Lord Samuel Tarly break away from the main pack, but even further ahead of them Lord Brynden Royce and his horse are eating up the track in a blur.

Amazingly the virtually unknown Ser Jeffry Turnberry manages to just nick ahead of the legendary Lord Brynden. Apart from Tunberry's, most of the horses are looking very tired, and many are falling behind the two leaders. Ser Hugh Drox, Gargantuan Garth and Ser Benson Donniger are at the rear, fighting to not end in last place.

Tunberry gets everything he can out of his mount, pushing it to its limits and gaining a few yards extra on Royce who is likewise trying to exact the most from his horse. No one else is anywhere near them. Tarly is keeping a solid hold on third, only Ser Harmen Wells and Irwyn have sight of him. Ser Albert of Ramsbridge and Ser Hamilton Frey now drag behind the rest of the pack in the two last places.

Disaster for Turnberry as his horse stumbles and nearly falls after all the work his rider had been putting him through. Royce shoots ahead of him, and very quickly makes a great distance between them. Wells has moved into third and now looks keen to take Turnberry's place, while Royce himself is nearly in sight of the finish line. Irwyn and Tarly fall back to fourth and fifth place respectively. Ser Albert is bringing up the rear alone now, as Frey has picked up some speed.

As Royce sees the finish line he lets out an incredible burst of speed, and his true talent is seen as only the best are even close enough to be left in his dust. Irwyn also gives it his all for the last stretch, and looks like he might just overtake Turnberry, but in the end Ser Jeffry takes second by a nose.
A long time after everyone else has finished Raymund Corbray, Frey and Ser Albert finally cross the finish line.

I still maintain that noteworthy joust should transfer to at least beginner or novice, if not apprentice riding.

Sorry Crake, I didn't agree that that was fair to people who spend time working on both skills.

I disagree also as riding and jousting are two very different skills. I think it would be worthwhile to say that jousting requires both so you have to make a role for riding and one for jousting but that seems like too much work for the admin.

Here's a set of rules I drew up for making horsemanship a factor during jousts that I thought would be interesting and also is not that labor intensive for the person rolling the fight (One extra roll per round, basically). I'm just throwin it out there as a possibility.

To be honest Samuel, I have rolled plenty so far for this tourney and I still have more to do. I would have no interest in having extra rolls added to jousts for the purpose of giving a false sense of realism, and I wouldn't want others to have to do it either.
