Selwyn Stone spots his kinfolk drinking and settles in along their bench. Appraising Aranya, he says "Welcome back to the rotbucket of King's Landing, wench. Couldn't stay away from me, could you? Storm's End to tedious a place, eh?"

"No place is tedious when I have wildlings in my bed, but I fear your brother didn't really love the idea of them stinking up the place, so I sent them off with Elane and came here for some adventure. Ran into some unexpected people," she gave Lord Breyn a playful smile, and nudged Georg Reeves. "All the men from the battle at the Rock are here, including you and me." She grinned. "How did the coronation go? And I just heard that the Worm got married? Let's hope his little worm is up to the job."

At this time Prince Maerys Targaryen entered the market square with no real purpose but to get away from his niece's wedding party.

"If Lord Hightower did not decide to keep the little worm as a pet and cut it off. You have a place to stay? I might be able to make space for you in the Tower of the Hand."
"How is brother Rhod anyways? Is he drunk or sober most days?"

"I was going to take a room at the Merry Maid, but a bed in the Tower of the Hand sounds inviting, now that I think on it. As for your brother, he's taken his new duties very seriously. Rather too seriously. It's a pity, he used to be such fun, light-hearted company."

"Aye, he's been strange since the start of the war. Kept some distance even from me. I think he prefers the company of the somber storm knights now."
"Bah. I'm almost happy I've been left behind here in King's Landing, cesspit that it is."
"You don't want to stay at the Married Maid. It is overheavy with Tyrellian bootlickers. Join me in the Tower to see what I'll lick."

Aranya had to laugh. "I've had my fill of the stench of roses. I think I'm in the mood for something more stony." She rose and stretched, amused at the look on Reeves' face. "Want to walk out into the square?"

"Stone hard, wench. I'll take a walk with you."

Aranya felt between his breeches and grinned. "Still as honest as ever, Stone." They walked out into the noisy square, and Aranya saw a tall man in the red and black silk. His silver hair gave him away. "Oh bloody hell, we have one of those lizards here now. I thought I wouldn't have to see one until I went to the Red Keep. Which one of Aegon's brats is this one?"

"That's Maerys, I think. The angry one. We should keep our distance, I think." Selwyn is concerned. He has heard of Maerys' wrath. "Aegon's brother."

Aranya smiled mockingly. "The angry one? I haven't seen him fight any battles. Maerys is proof that Aegon can take a joke." Seeing the look of concern on Selwyn's face, she laughed and added, "All right, all right, I'm not here to pick a fight. Let me get my things and we'll ride to the Red Keep. I want to seat myself on a Tower."

"Ah, King's Landing is a brighter place every time you open your lips to smile. As for Maerys, I have seen him fight a battle, at Casterly Rock. The man is vicious."

Aranya shrugged. "All men are. Until I see this one face down Kid Death, I won't fear him." She signalled for the stable boy to bring their horses. "Give me a second to gather my things, and we'll head out, all right?"

Aranya slipped into the Merry Maid to gather up her pack. She told Georg Reeves that she'd meet him tomorrow, and then emerged into the yard. She and Selwyn mounted their horses.

After breaking her fast with Selwyn, Aranya rides back to the marketplace. Georg Reeves is waiting for her. She stables her bad-tempered, snapping stallion and walks with him. "I'm curious," she said. "Captain, would you know where I might find the Ribbon Crone?"
