Lord Pieter Tully escapes into Harrenhal just ahead of the King's force. If it had not been for an ambush on the Read of Rodrick's force, the king would have surely caught Tully exposed.
Harrenhal was staffed with only 75 guards, and 20 person staff. They had provisions for 4 months for that size. That will only last only 3 weeks for the Riverland army with rationing.
The provisions the men brought with them will add another two weeks of food, perhaps three with proper rationing. Then the Riverlands men will begin to starve to death.

King Rodrick arrives and begins to build defensive fortifications. He sends word to Gaunt to merge with his force as soon as possible.

In early morning the defenders of Harrenhall charge out of Harrenhall, attempting to break through the King's forces and make a run for it.
Ser Desmond Darry is commanding, Legendary Battle.
Pieter will help if needed, Expert Military Strategy. Vayon too, Expert Battle and Noteworthy Leadership. However, the Lords will be charged through with cavalry at the first chance.
Oh yeah, both Expert sword.

With their surprise sally, the Riverlands achieve exactly what they intend, and cut deeply into the King's force. They cut deeply into the King's men forcing a deep gash into his lines and blowing through the first row of fortifications like they were not even there.
Ser Vayon takes a medium wound from the kings' sword. Vance and Jon piper also take wounds in the intense fighting.

Catastrophe for the Riverlanders, a rally led by the King cuts through the lines of their troops. Half the force is with Lord Tully, and half is still around the gates under the command of Ser Desmond Darry.
Rivers is cut down by a hard sword blow, and Lord Terrence takes an arrow to his side falling from his horse. His men pick him up and drap him along. He is confused and in pain but still grips his sword.

Ser Desmond is forced back so far that, he his men are fighting in the gates of the Keep. He gives the order and the gates come crashing home. He spins and runs for the walls, to see what has happened to the men out side.
Lord Pieter Tully continues to drive his men toward freedom, but they are surrounded on all sides by the King's men. Terrence Blackwood is captured by Ipithius Tides as the two men cross blades.
Ser Vance knocks Ser Jon Piper from the battle with a strong blow from horseback, and continues to push toward the rear of the enemy.

The King's men close in, and movement seems to stop for Tully and his men. They are just desperately blocking their enemies attacks. Darry sees this and pales. He turns and orders archers up onto the walls beside him.
Lord Pieter takes a hit, and staggers almost falling from his mount, his men die around him.

Arrows rain down on the Kings men, and soon arrows are flying back at the wall of the keep. Men are hit, and it slows down their assault on. Tully sees an opening and changes the route of his assault. And groans as an arrow lodges in his chest. Mooton's aim was true as ever.
At last the remnants of Tully's army break free and ride away.
Immediately cavalry under Mooton and Tides give chase.
Darry pulls his men back, and looks into Harrenhal, and almost cries.
