William looked at his cousin, "Very well then you are the Lord and it is your choice."

Alys Rowan walked in the courtyard. Her brother Derick was busy with his war councils, which meant she was left at a loose end.

"Alys Rowan. I'm Lord Derick's sister. I always fight beneath his banner and sometimes act as one of his lieutenants," she explained.

"Lord Derick is a good man. It is very rare to find a woman who not only uses a sword but is also accepted."

Alys smiled. "It is indeed, but my brother knows I'd carry a sword whether he willed it or no. It was easier for him to accept it. It also means that he knows I will be able to take care of myself, if anything unpleasant befalls me. Some men may think ill of a woman who wields a sword but most respect the blade, if not the woman who wields it." She was thinking of her sister's past. No-one would do to her what that man had done to Lucie.

"I can see your logic Lady Rowan. But do not worry I will not judge you I accept your choice to wield a blade."

"As indeed you must, ser," Alys replied, smiling at him. "I would not hang up my blade for any reason save my own choice. Be that as it may, I hope we may be friends, Ser Bealor."

"It would please me very much to befriend a Rowan. Do you like to ride Alys? You don't mind if I call you Alys do you? And just call me Bealor or Bea for short."

"Of course you may call me Alys, Bealor," she replied. "And yes, I am very fond of riding. I like active pursuits more than I like ladylike activities such as sewing. I leave those to my mother and sister."

"Would you like to go riding then. I have to get away from everything I'm feeling too... closed in."
