In one of the smaller septs in King's Landing a private ceremony is held for Roland Royce. There are guards to keep trouble makers outside.
Lord Howland Royce stands vigil near his father's cold body, his right hand holding a greatsword whose point rested on the floor. Many of his bannermen are present and knights who had fought with his father in wars and battles.
Brandon Royce is standing behind Howland to his left, grief written on his face.

An older man, in a black tunic with a long cowl enters and nods to Lord Howland before approaching Master Brandon.
"Brandon, you have the condolences of Lord Justin, Lord Cyrus and all that Far Reach. I have been asked to provide you with these letters expressing their feelings." The whisperer placed a small bundle of written parchment into the man's hand.

Lord William Dawnrose arrives. He nods at the guards and then steps inside. He had not know Lord Roland personally but he was a great and noble man from the Vale and deserved to be remembered.

Pieter attends the ceremony, wearing a black tunic and a solemn expression. He bows his head in respect; although he didn't know the man, he had heard many things about him.

Ser Galahad, ever present with the Queen, was thankful that it was not he who condemmed the late Lord Royce to his fate. If it were he who locked away the man, he would feel that he did not deserve his cloak, to be standing here.

Queen Selyse and Lord Brynden come for the funeral. Selyse laid a wreath of flowers on Roland's coffin, and quietly found Howland. 'I am sorry that he died before he could see the free air again," she said, taking Howland's hand between hers. "I have tried to free him for years, but with no success. Your father was a good man." "He was a good man, yes, and did not deserve the fate he was served," Howland said with undertones of anger though not directed at the queen. Brynden stood with his head bowed and quietly made his way to Howland after a while. "I would stand vigil with you tonight, cousin, with your consent." "Thank you," Howland said simply to Brynden accepting his offer. Brandon accepts the parchment and it is soon stuffed inside one of his pockets. "Thank you," Brandon replied. "And extend my and Howland's thanks to the Far Reach when you are able. If there's anything you require help with I will do my best to help".

The man nodded, "Thank you Master Brandon, I shall pass that along as well." He smiled slightly, and than slipped out through a rear exit.

Rickon Baratheon entered the sept, and immediately went to pay his respects to Lord Howland. "I am sorry for your lose, Ser. And I am sorry for so much more. Your father was a good man, who deserved much better."

"So the rumours were true," Howland said absentmindedly. "Thank you for your condolences, I am sure they are much more truthful than your brother's. You were one of the last men to speak to my father, do you know why he was imprisoned?"

Rickon winced, "When I abdicated, your father accused my mother of Treason. Rodrick reacted in a strong manner. Your father hit him." He sighed, "There is more, but nothing I can tell you with out breaking trust with my brother."
Rickon looked back up with a sour expression, "And even if I do not respect my brother, I love him. I am sorry. It was a foul deed."

The queen had left earlier in the day, but Brynden had remained to stand vigil. When he saw Rickon enter, his eyes widened in shock. He walked over at once. "Rickon Baratheon," he said, grasping the man's arm. "I had not thought to see you here. They said you were on the Wall, or roaming the North wild lands, all these years." Rickon nodded, and said quickly, "Yes. It seems they had the right of it. Excuse me." He turned back to Lord Royce.

Howland nodded trying to piece together the events, his grip on the greatsword tightened but then relaxed again. "It does not seem like my father to hit someone without being greatly provoked first". Howland sighed and looked at Rickon, "Could you tell me of how my father was as Hand? He did not like to talk about it due to how his position ended."

Rickon shrugged, "I should have listened to him more. I made mistakes, but he was wise, honest and loyal. I should have listened to him." He repeated.
