Belmore inclined head head respectfully as Victor excused himself. It seemed as though he would let the riverlord leave without a further word, but finally Edwyn caught his eyes.
"A single kernel of truth feeds the mind more than the cornucopia bursting with falsehoods," he offered, by way of parting. "I trust you say safe, Lord Frey."

He smiles, not a smirk, but something less lordly. "You sound more like a maester than a lord. No wonder you rarely talk. I hope you keep your good fortune and avoid scoundrels like me. Good day, sir."

Brandon enters the Hall, wearing leather clothing rather than the fine noble man stuff. He nods to the Frey and smiles at Belmore, "Good day Lord Belmore, how are you?" He finds a free spot near the lord.

Edwyn inclined his head. "Fine enough, milord," he replied, sliding over the second, untouched ale Victor Frey had offered him. "What did you make of the council, if I may ask? The Vale certainly made it through better than most."

"That we did," Brandon mulls over the question. "If His Grace had been a regular lord and some king had killed his father, he would have acted pretty much in the same way I'd wager... Besides he might have thought that the razing of Runestone is enough punishment". Brandon grits his teeth at the last part, and some lights in the room flicker. He blinks and calm himself, "The mercenaries got dealt with though".

Balon Harlaw pushed open the door to the hall, strolling up to the bar, scythe swinging from its back-sheath.
“Something strong, by God I need a drink.”
Lazily he let his eyes wander about the hall, taking in the unusual clientele.

Brandon turns to look at the newcomer then seemingly looks around for the first time. He nods to his kin Lord Lannister and Wulf Pyke.

Besides he might have thought that the razing of Runestone is enough punishment". Brandon grits his teeth at the last part, and some lights in the room flicker. He blinks and calm himself, "The mercenaries got dealt with though". The Lord of Strong song gave a small grunt of approval at word of the mercenaries. "Good. Be it Runestone, or Coldwater, or even the Paps, I don't savor the notion of my home under attack." Reaching for his mug and draining the last few sips of his ale, the valelord replaced the vessel and did not call for more. "How does Runestone stand, truly? I've heard snippets, rumors, but I shan't believe them unless from the mouth of someone who has seen it with his own eyes."

"On the contrary," Tyberion replies, "if you'd be interested, I've got a younger half-brother by my father, name of Piers. He's old enough to be squired by now, and you seem like what he could use. That damn mother of his pampers the boy. He needs some sense knocked into him, same as happened to me." Wulf considered it. "Aye, I could take him. He'd have no easy time with it, I won't always be here. Sometimes I'll be sailing the Narrow Sea, and he'll have to learn quickly if he wants a place aboard my ship," Wulf warned. Balon Harlaw pushed open the door to the hall, strolling up to the bar, scythe swinging from its back-sheath. “Something strong, by God I need a drink.” Lazily he let his eyes wander about the hall, taking in the unusual clientele. Rodrik nodded his head to Balon as the lord of Ten Towers entered the hall. "Balon, your brother is upstairs in his solar, he's looking to talk to you."

"It's a ruin, every wodden structure burnt down, fortunatly the foundation still stands and the outer walls as well. I don't know much of engineering but those parts can still be used. The keep itself still stands though not much else. Runestone was never the most fortified castle, though I suspect that will change after the rebuilding," Brandon answered drinking his ale.

Edwyn rubbed his chin in contemplation. "You know, if the Runestone lands have a quarry with similar stone, it should be fairly easy to match the reusable blocks with fresh cuts to replace the ruined sections of the wall. In fact, I have no less than three texts in my library on the subject, if I remember correctly."
His demeanor seemed to shift as he picked up the subject, stern reservation replaced with earnest enthusiasm. "Oh, yes, I know. Wilhem's of Ancient Keeps, Castles, and Ruins. Very interesting -- a great find. It goes into such detail about these places; High Heart, Moat Cailin, Summerhall, even the Whispers. Fascinating. I've had it on loan from Maester Johannon of the Citadel for, what, a year now? Though he is holding on to my copy of the Grimoire of Creatures Westerosi; Second Edition in its place, so he can hardly complain."

Brandon nods though he doesn't quite follow what the Lord is saying, "I am sure Howland would like to hear more about it, if I remember corectly he studied engineering quite a bit when he was squiring for Late Lord Hightower. I find myself liking mysteries more than science".

"Mysteries are well and good to feed the mind, but often one finds them lacking in compared to other pursuits. Mysteries are like the stew before the feast that is knowledge. It will whet your appetite for the more filling courses," Edwyn spoke sagely. "And when you least expect it, sometimes you find that the knowledge you seek is a mystery all in itself."
Belmore smiled, leaning forward in his chair. "But regardless, I will have to catch a word with Lord Howland. Am I correct in assuming him to be in King's Landing?"

Brandon nods at Edwyn's words, "Not often one find men wise beyond their years, Lord Belmore. I remember myself as quite impulsive in my younger days, there was this one incident at Hellholt..." Brandon close his mouth and rubs his forehead. "Howland should still be around I think. If overseeing once castle being built doesn't count as enough reason to stay out of the court for a while I'm not sure what does. He won't be leaving for a few days though, pillaging through the library at the Red Keep".
He takes another swallow of his ale, "So how's my wife's sister?"

"I'll have to catch him before he leaves, or meet up with him at Runestone later. We shall see."
At the mention of his wife, Edwyn can't help but crack a smile. "Lady Cecily fares well, busy minding the girls around Strongsong her last letter spoke. If one child is a handful then certainly six would spill out of one's arms," he mused. "And your lady wife? Well, I trust?"
