After the tragedy at the feast, the poisoned Roose Stark is taken to one of the most comfortable rooms in Moat Cailin, in middle of the Children's Tower. The bed is wide, warm, and soft, and a shuttered and curtained window looks out into the courtyard. The single door into the room is guarded by a dozen spearmen, and while Lord Stark is bedridden, no person is allowed in or out without Lord Reed's permission.

Roose drifted in and out of consciesnous for an indeterminable time. In his head was a flurry of visions and memories. He saw himself climbing the side of a mountain in the Frostfangs, first being legitimized by Callen Baratheon. He saw himself drive the sword into his kinsman's chest, and claiming Ice by birthright and war. When he finally awoke he whispered quietly into the air. "Reed....get me Reed."

The whispers had been enough to alert one of the guards, who quickly sent for Lord Olander. After a few moments he arrived, perhaps a few shades too pallid, but not nearly in the condition that his liege lord was.
"Milord Roose," he said, announcing his presence, voice soft as snow.

"Closer dammit..." Roose struggled to say. His vision was hazy, but he could see the small thin outline of the crannogman.

The crannoglord does as he is bid, hovering near the edge of the sickbed.

"Lady Stark....and the child. How are they?" Roose asked, his voice composed if slightly weak.

"Unharmed," he breathed, with a sigh of relief. "They are being well protected until the culprit is found. We are well protected..."
Olander took another breath, deeper. "Only... Lord Bolton was killed, along with a handful of others; warriors, servants, peasants. Many others are ill, but it looks like they will survive... However... You took the worst of what poisoned us, milord."

Roose gave a shallow chuckle. "One might argue that Lord Bolton took the worst Olander," the northern lord said, using the crannogman's first name, "He was the last of his line.....just what we need....another empty seat needing another lord....at least it will allow us to start anew..."
Roose thought back on something Benjen Stark had told him. Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. "So it must be with the north." Roose muttered under his breath.
Roose thought for a moment. "You have Frey under custody? He seems to be the most likely suspect."

"I do," the tiny crannogman confirmed. "I currently have guards interrogating him on the subject. I mean to join them when I am able."
He hesitated. "One thing, milord... What of Lord Pieter? Do you suspect him of anything?"

"Tully? I can't see any motivation.....did you notice if he ate anything at the feast?"

"He arrived late to the feast, and thought I do not recall if he ate or not, he did drink the wine during the toast.

Roose thought for a moment, "Check to see which of the dishes are poisoned, and if any of the drink was....now then, help me up."

Olander nodded at the first command, yet hesitated at the second. "Milord? Help you up?" he said, tentatively, then shook his head. "This is not a good idea, milord. Trust me when I tell you this. You need rest. Whatever it is you need, ask and it will be taken care of."

"What I ask you cannot do," Roose said weakley, "Get someone else to help. The gathered lords need to see me, they need to see that House Stark still stands and is not brought down by the efforts of assassins and plotters."

He nodded. "They will see. We will see, milord, that the North is in strong hands." Olander could hear the weakness in his liege lord's voice. Laying a hand on his chest, the crannogman gently pushed Roose back into his sickbed.
"But you are in no condition to speak to the lords now. They need strength, not weakness... This I am most sure of. I have always given you wise council before milord, so please heed me when I say you need rest. Even if just for just this night. I will see that no others fall ill, and ease the panicked lords. I will see to the wretched Frey creature as well. Rest, milord, and all will be better for it come the dawn."
