What period of history are we in?

GRRM is known to have based the War of the Five Kings off of the actual War of the Roses and the Hundred Year War. Most of the stuff in asoiaf denotes a medieval tone, but what period is our RPG in? Personally I think we're starting to make the transition from the medieval era to the renaissance. We're seeing the rise of the merchant class, and the most powerfull nobles are those involved with the economy. I forget which thread or scenario it was but someone said they're bribing pirates and smugglers, somewhat like the time when England hired pirates as privateers. We're also seeing the benefits of professional orders. Like the Black Widow's or the Vale Watch.

Aye, we're slowly coming towards a Westerosi renaissance. It's interesting...we may have to start implementing gunpowder, etc, soon.

That's true, I noticed it's changing as well. Pssh to the Renaissance. All we need is A Long Winter and the invasion of Others to set us back a few hundred years again. *Others jump up and down in front of Crake*

Maybe, but in real life progress was often being set back. So the world was less developed in medieval times than Roman times. Similar things could happen in this game

Indeed we are entering a Renaissance period in Westeros. I wonder if Dorne will need to discover Easteros? ^_^
