I know, Felix just didn't want to take the risk. It was more of staying in character than anything. Felix is naturally suspicious, he thought "Why even bother eating this crap if it's poisioned." Besides, the stuff was from Roose's own plate.

Hey Felix, in your backstory, it says nothing about you being the captain of the guard in Winterfell... am I missing something?

As to your first question: We wanna get rich? I went to a con once and GRRM was there. Someone asked about the new mint the Manderlys were going to make for the Starks. GRRM said that the North has an abundance of silver mines, and that the Manderlys had connections with a couple of Free Cities banks.
