A young guard captain dressed in blue and white stepped into Ser Steffen's solar, and saluted the knight. "I bring word from Faircastle, Ser," he said, handing the Worm a letter sealed with blue wax.
To Ser Steffen Lannister, Ser Addam Farman, Castellan of Faircastle, sends greetings.
I apologize for not informing you, Ser, that I would be sending my daughter to you sooner than expected, but I have ill tidings from the sea. A fortnight ago, sailors of Fairisle found a ship of the Royal fleet badly damaged. The only living man found aboard was severely wounded, and he wove a tale of approaching terror and danger from the West, and was sufficiently convincing as he fell into a coma shortly after telling his story. I have sent my daughter to you now, so that she might enter your protection. If there is truly a threat coming in from the western seas, I would have her as far from it as possible; you have a daughter of your own and I am sure you know my feelings behind this decision.
Regardless of that, the time of your marriage is soon approaching, and I am told that Lord Duncan is heading toward Lannisport to attend, as I write this letter. I hope I have no inconvenienced you by sending my daughter early, or troubled your mind with these ill tidings but in truth the safety of my daughter and the westerlands are more important to me. I will come to Lannisport myself, to attend the wedding ceremony, but for now I must remain in Faircastle to prepare our island in the case of an invasion from the west.
Signed, Ser Addam Farman, Castellan of Faircastle
