"Wind is with is, not too long Ser." the merchant captain said, before finding something to make him look busy.

Darien sighed - It seemed like no one wanted to talk to him. He stood there watching the sea for a moment before turning around and looking for Asha. He knew the woman would probably not talk to him but the least he could do was try.

Asha was sitting on the bow of the ship, her legs straddling the back of the prow carved like a naked woman. She was looking out on the sea.
"Good sailing today. Good wind, smooth water. The Drowned God is pleased about something." She said without turning, as he approached.

Darien stopped within respectable distance from her and listened as she spoke. "I wish I knew more about sailing. The sea has always excited me but I never really got the chance to try myself out on a ship." He breathed in the salty air and looked out at the vast water. "So how does this drowning and being born again work? I have heard of it before but have no idea what it exactly involves."

"Pretty simple. Priest dunks you under until you can't breathe, and your lungs fill with seawater. Than you either come back, or ya don't."

"Ah, I see..." The customs of the ironborn never seased to amaze Darien. "And how did it go for you? I mean... were you not scared?"

"Nope." She said, as the ship broke a wave, and salt water drenched her, and very nearly him as well.

Darien stood there for a moment, saying nothing. It occured to him that he was seriously underestimating this woman. If she didn't fear being drowned then there could surely be nothing that could scare her. "I can't even imagine what that must be like, to be drowned." He walked forward and sat down beside her, still wary however. "Is there anything that does scare Asha Sparr?"

Asha was quiet for a moment.
"No, I don't think so. What scares GreenStone?"

He hadn't expected her to return the question and sat there thinking for a moment. "Ah, probably the typical one - Loss. Call me craven, or stupid or whatever, but that is one thing that truly makes me afraid. Hasn't happened to me much but when it does it stings." For a moment he considered and then added "And the dark."

Asha looked back at him. "What does being afraid of Loss mean? "

He carefully considered his words then. "Well, I am guessing you have something that you wouldn't want to trade for the world; Something material, a friend, anything like that... Now think about how terrible it would be for that something to get snatched away from you - just like that, and that there is nothing you can do about it." Darien sighed heavily then, hoping Asha understood what he meant. "I sometimes think about it alot. Too much."

She shook his head, "Just go take a new one." She said, "I like my axe and my jewels" she shook her head, the metal in her braids jangling softly. "But if I lost it, I'd just go get some more."

Darien involutarily smiled at the woman's simple philosophy. "I guess you are right, I mean the way you handled the whole brother situation. I have a sister and even though I barely know her, I'd be terrified to know she was in danger. Maybe I'm just a fool about that."
