"Is that so?" Harrick snorted, not lowering his bow an inch. The knight's clothes were faded, but were obviously of good quality, fine, rich stuff. "You look a fine lordly type, with that pretty sword and fine clothes. What does some highborn knight want with the likes of us? We rob your type."

Rowyn grew irritated at that. "Do you believe everything you hear, man? That all lords are arrogant pigs? And I suppose I am to take you for an unwashed, ignorant peasant, then? I come to pledge my sword, but my past is my own. Will you not have me?"

His words might as well have been a monkey's gibberish. Harrick's eyes were cold. "Why do you wish to join us?" he repeated.

This did nothing for Rowyn's temper. "I am here to fight with you, obviously! I have heard stories of this Greycowl, and I wished to see him for myself. His cause is an honourable one, and to be honest with you, it would be nice to have some food in my belly and ale in my hand once more." Confronted with the archer's flat stare and quivering bowstring, he help up his plams placatingly. "Believe me, I have no love of the highborn, no more than you do."

"Why not?" Harrick only lowered his bow a fraction.

Rowyn sighed. "Well, as you can probably see," he said, gesturing, " I am somewhat, highborn, myself. Suffice it to say that I encountered difficulties at home, and was forced to leave. I am an exile. Even if I wished to betray you, where would I go?"

"Someone get Greycowl," Harrick said. "He should decide this."

Fat Jack sweated "Here now, here now. There's no need for violence is there Harrick? The man obviously does not mean us harm" he smiled weakly at the newcomer

The woodsman who named himself Rufus sat on a stump of a tree and scowled as he watched the two squabble

Linus slowly edged his way around to the back of the Knight.

Rowyn thought he noticed movement to the side, but he was more proccupied with the arrow trained athis face. You'd think they'd be happy to see another trained warrior.

"... 'Ey, shit-sword," the woodsman grumbled deep in his throat, motioning to Linus. "Ye'll be leavin' Ser Bandit 'lone 'till Greycowl 'ears from 'im."

Rowyn inclined his head to the rough woodsman in thanks, ever careful not to make any sudden movements.

"Ah shut your mouth ya peasant, excuse our weariness Ser but you can see how we would be suspicions of a armed Knight strolling in to our camp, Free-Rider Linus at your service."

"No need for excuses, Linus." Rowyn had cooled down a bit, and realised his error. "I should have hailed your sentries, rather than sneaking by. I understand your caution, I was merely hoping to avoid an arrow in the face before I had the chance to explain myself." He smiled wryly. "Evidently my approach left much to be desired," he said, glancing at Harrick.
