I've followed up my Scenario post with the text of Lord Royce's letter. Again, I have not yet heard from Crakehall if he approves, but here is the text I submitted:
~~~
The following is the text of the letter written by Lord Alyn Royce in support of his son's nomination to the Kingsguard. He gives the letter to his sister, Lilith Royce, to bear with her as she travels with Ser Rhodri Royce to King's Landing. Lord Alyn also sends an abridged version via Raven, with less flowery language and details.
The text written here starts after the appropriate honors are given to the King, and condolences for the dead:
"May I suggest my son, the honourable Ser Rhodri Royce, to the ranks of the Kingsguard, the ranks of your chosen defenders. He is my second son, and a knight for four years already. He was born a winter child; a winter child is always harder against the cold and dark times, armoured against the dangers present in the land.
His honours make him worthy of the White Cloak. He won our great tourney at Gulltown, against the largest field our yearly tilt has seen in some dozen years. Those he bested in the lists includes his highly regarded cousin, Lord Perce Corbray, as well as Ser Gregor Hardyng and Ser Medric Velaryon. All knights of the highest regard. My son won the Melee at Lord Harroway's Town late last year, defeating a field that included Ser Tybolt Tully, Ser Manfred Piper and the feared Black Will Bolton.
But more important than his tourney victories is his success in the field. No house is so beset as we by the Mountain Clans; I entrust my son to lead my men into battle against them, and he has won key battles against the Stone Crows, bending them to our will, as well as the Moon Brothers and the Burnt Men. These wild men are dangerous and know the mountains well, but Ser Rhodri has learned the mountains better, the best passes to make battles, and how to spy upon his enemy from afar. He earns the loyalty of the men who follow him. He is ready for the Kingsguard; his skills in scouting, skirmishing and leadership will help you rid the Kingswood of the bandits who torment you now.
Your highness -- place the cloak upon my son's shoulders and you shall have a devout guard for life. He is young; there is life yet in his ligaments. His hair shall not turn gray for many winters yet."
The letter is sealed with the runic symbol of Lord Alyn Royce.
