Horas Blackwood was a wealthy man for reasons that had little to do with lordship. Nonetheless, the loss of Riverrun as well as access to House Blackwood’s funds had hurt his efforts, and it would take time to recover from that. Horas had never considered himself a masterful businessman, but he had plenty of experience running the finances for keeps great and small, and he did own a certain number of enterprises to supplement his income.
Horas’ first stop was at several banks in the Free Cities, most notably the Iron Bank of Braavos. There he withdrew several fortunes under false names and a series of passwords – the Targaryen’s hoard he had moved long ago (some might say stolen), money left to him by certain friends, and his own store of gold sealed away for emergencies. Solid gold in hand, Horas then began setting about to buy up businesses and invest in others.
At each business meeting Horas Blackwood was a different man, with a different name and a different appearance. It had been a long time since Horas had worked in the field, but the old talents came rushing back. Soon he was mixing a potion that when applied to his face was a very believable mimicry of a scar. He perfected accents and ways of carrying himself. The Crow would need to be invisible for what he had planned for the future.
It would take time, but the seeds Horas had sown would eventually bear golden fruit.
