Brandon found himself aimlessly walking in the streets of King’s Landing. He visited some merchants and had some small talk about what’s new and some old, bought hot pies from young street peddlers taking the time to walk with them as he ate and talked to the smiths about how their trade was faring, how busy they were and about the people who had made them busy.
There were a lot of lords coming to the city again, all crows waiting to feast in the aftermath of war. Francis Blackwood petitioned to have Seagard wrested from the Ironborn, wouldn’t that be a matter for the new Lord Paramount of Riverlands? The Blackwood was becoming ambitious again and so Brandon bribed two serving maids and a page in his service to whisper for him, additional moneys was given so that they wouldn’t tell. However, the page was harder to convince than the maids. He could always charm the maids with a song or a whispered word in their ear to make them hot in the face and damp elsewhere. He could do no such thing with the men
There was also Petyr the master of the Mummer’s Guild, who likes to gossip, it was good that the entertainers from Braavos had made a good impression there. Though a lot of it would likely be just gossip, still there was always some truth in gossip. He also made similar visit to Lord Dondarrion’s and Ser Grant Connington’s people. He also arranged disguises as a servant and sneaked in their town houses. It was not a hard task especially as no one took notice of the grey serving men.
As he walked back to the Bronzehall he thought about what he had just done. If he could so easily get whisperers in another lord’s household, so could they get whispers in the Royce’s. That would not do. In the Bronzehall Brandon talked to every servant and those in the household at length, making him more popular among the men and women. He managed to instil a more loyal attitude among them by persuasion and small talk. Maybe the magic did something to his voice, but he wouldn’t know. He made it a point to talk to the ones in Roland’s employ at the Keep and Aranya’s too. It was a good deal for both sides. Those currently whispering to other lords would still be allowed to do so, they would just be told what to report to whom instead.
On his way out he saw Patrek patrolling the hallways. Since Patrek had seen him on his way to fight the gang members Brandon had made it a goal to sneak past him once. For now he would be satisfied with following him in the hallways. It seemed that Patrek was done with his watch as he made his way down in the depths of the keep. Brandon found himself peering in a room with dragon skulls. “Huge,” was all he could think. Then he heard Patrek say, “Damn you Garrett” loudly and then some mutters that he couldn’t make out. Brandon then left Patrek alone with the skulls.
Patrek had stood still in the skull room as he called it, thinking about the past and how it felt to be compared to a dragon slayer. He sighed and was about to leave. At the door opening he saw another set of foot steps. He growled and ran down the hallways to catch the culprit. He caught up with the bastard and spun him around. His eyes widened when he saw that it was Brandon. “I didn’t mean to catch you in a private moment, cousin,” Brandon said slightly shaken “I was just trying to see if I could get past you”. Patrek grunted. “Say nothing of this to anyone, what would people say if they found me cursing my own family”. “Your secret is safe with me, Patrek,” Brandon said sympathetically. "How did you notice anyway?". "These parts have not been swept for ages, there's alot of dust on the floor". Brandon cursed at his short sightness while Patrek snorted out a chuckle.
Result:
Whispers increase activity around Connington, Francis Blackwood and Breck Dondarrion,
Other faction’s whispers are taken over in the Royce’s household and will only report what Brandon wants them to report.
Brandon increase to expert espionage
Brandon increase to master stealth
Patrek increase towards master observation
Patrek increase towards master speed
