Patrek patrolled the hallways of the Red Keep. The patrols had been increased since the successful assassinations. It provoked him greatly, an assassination on the King’s own family in his own home, it was enough to make him despair. Patrek grumbled. Didn’t he have a keen enough eye? Were the King’s Men at fault? What would have happened if the King had been struck? Didn’t he join the King’s Men to protect the King? Look how good of a job he had made of it first the coup and then the Red Keep is infiltrated. Patrek’s mouth twitched.
The hallways were silent but for the distant sounds of merry making. Torches flickered casting shadows in which people could hide. But Patrek was more observant than most and he had no torch in hand that blinded him. Instead he had his axe in his left and crossbow in his right. Osmund was a master smith indeed. Fortunately he could see no assassins this night.
The next day reports from the city had made its way up to the Keep, two small time gangs had clashed together in the worse parts of King’s Landing. The numbers ranged from 40-60 gang members fighting. “Bloody incompetent Goldcloaks,” Patrek grumbled and brought 20 King’s Men with him. They jogged down to the slums, not tiring a bit. The training had finally shown results.
On the way to the site he spotted a group of Goldcloaks. “Why are you not stopping them?” he asked silent and hard. “The captain’s not here,” one of them stuttered. “I do not care about your captain’s rat arse, either you come with me or the King will hear of your actions,” Patrek’s unflinching stare cowered the Goldcloaks and they followed his lead. They now numbered 35.
As they came closer they could hear screaming and shouting. Growling he sent 5 King’s Men and the Goldcloaks around the buildings to take the gangs from the rear. He gave Vardis the task of leading them. The King’s Men held their crossbows ready as they turned the corner. Patrek looked at the gang members they couldn’t be more than 50 and they were all slightly bloody. “In the name of the King, stop your fighting and lay down the weapons!” Patrek yelled. The gang members that just now spotted them laughed. Patrek grimaced he figured they would unite to fight the authorities. He could see Vardis with the King’s Men and the Goldcloaks on the far end.
Patrek steeled himself, this would be his first real fight since the battle against Andry. “Fire,” he ordered as the King’s Men stood in a line. They all fired at the gang members, they had little to nothing as armour and the distance wasn’t too big for the crossbows. Gang members fell down moaning in pain and charged the King’s Men, they managed one more round of fire before they had to draw their weapons.
Patrek ran headlong into the rushing mob his speed almost like the bolts they had just fired. His axe was a blur among the criminals and everywhere it went a body part was dismembered. Whether it was a head, hand, arm or leg, the axe showed no mercy. The King’s Men was not faring too badly either. Some bled but they weren’t dead. The goldcloaks and other King’s Men had long since crashed into the back of the gang members and they were falling by the score.
Patrek saw a blur of motion to his right and ducked out of instinct. He swung his axe around but it was parried by the same sword that almost hacked his head off. The man seemed better armoured than the other criminals and better with weapons too if the two dead man with golden cloaks could be believed. The two weapons filled the air with screams of metal meeting metal as they parried and slashed at each other.
Suddenly a man screamed behind him, Patrek spun around and avoided a sword that would have plunged into his back. His axe flashed in the air, and a red spray of blood covered the gang leader as the man was hacked into two pieces. The leader faltered and Patrek took advantage of that. With fine precision he slashed of the fingers of the leader’s sword hand, reversed the axe and hit him with the blunt side. The leader collapsed, and the battle was over.
Patrek looked around; it was like a small battle field. That brought back memories he didn’t cherish. Some of the gang members had escaped the fighting in the end, but the leader was in a good condition to be questioned. Patrek ordered the King’s Men to take their wounded back to the Keep and the leader of the one gang to the dungeons. He didn’t quite trust the Goldcloaks yet. He got one of them to get their captain and have him take care of the rest of the wounded criminals. He questions the ones beyond any hope to survive before he take their heads off.
Result:
Patrek increase to Grand Master axe
Patrek increase to apprentice Battle tactics(fighting in cities/keeps)
The King’s Men brings order to the streets as two gangs are removed, and one of the leaders is taken to the dungeons of the Red Keep.
