Piers sits on the floor talking with a little girl telling her tales of a beautiful spider widow. When Aerie enters she immediately recognizes the young lady.

Aerie entered the chambers curiously though rather distractedly. Faint words drifted over her, seeming to follow a rhythm that was strangely cheer-inducing. When Aerie saw who was at the receiving end of Piers’s tale, her eyes widened in mingled horror and surprise, and she immediately fell upon her in a tight hug. “I’ve missed you!” she whispered to her with a small smile, which quickly tightened into cool speculation when she regarded Piers. “How did you find her? How did you even know about her?”

Piers stands with a sad smiles on his face and replies, "Oh we have become the best of friends. She is quite the pretty girl. Vikter told me about her. Aerie would show her just outside there are some things I wish to speak to you of... and her prescence is not necessary." Piers walked to an eastern facing window and stared out at the sea.

“Really?” Aerie said tonelessly, eyeing him warily. Marina had matured into a beautiful young thing, with glossy chestnut hair and honey eyes that glowed with warmth. “Marina, why don’t you explore outside for a while and let Piers and I have a friendly chat?” The girl nodded cheerfully and trotted away without question. Aerie turned to Piers, observing him grimly.

Piers eyed her for a long moment. "Vikter Jast is dead, I think." He frowns as he says it.

Aerie blinked.
“Tyrell?”

Piers sighed, "Yes, I think. He was far away, and now he is gone. But another runs his organization in Oldtown. Yes it was Tyrell."

An odd sort of pain twisted within her, and she could neither understand its nature nor purpose. He had warned her, but…
“But you are not certain,” she continued emotionlessly, the thought of Barrett Tyrell dominating her mind, provoking her wrath at his unpunished and utterly disgraceful self.
“It was because of me,” she said finally, with a cold sureness of her words. Another thing of which she was certain was that Tyrell would pay.

"I am certain, but his body will never be found. So there will never be confirmation. And Aerie it is not your fault, it is mine." Piers sighs and sits down in a comfortable chair. "Vikter never really betrayed me. I ordered him to serve the Tyrells in whatever they do. And then feed me information. This whole time he was working for me. I was the one who sent him to his death."

She found that something of a surprise, but perhaps it should not have been when she recalled his views on loyalty and other such rubbish. Somehow, knowing he was not as monstrous as he first appeared did little to assuage the sharp sensation in her stomach. “And nobody cared to tell me this, why? All this time you knew who had Taria, yet you forced me to travel to Lannisport, you caused the death of Kevan and now of Jast. Are you quite pleased with your little game now, Lord Beetle? I find it hysterical.” For once in her life, her tirade was delivered without expression or fever, but with a dull resignation.

"My small little Aerie, I do not play this game to gain power for myself. I have a deeper goal in mind, and I would sacrifice your whole family to gain it. And I would sleep the next night as if nothing had happened out of ordinary at all." Piers shakes his head, "Vik always claimed there was more of you then you showed to the world. But there is not. You love yourself and your sword, and then the rest of the world is boring until it gets in your way."

“Lord Piers Bettley,” she said with a cold laugh, “I’ve heard that sort of speech with enough regularity from my mother. I’m afraid your meaningful words fall short of life changing. I’m a selfish little bitch, would you like to add something else to the equation? On the other hand, I think the honorable causes of people such as yourself are the biggest piles of bull shit I have ever had the misfortune to endure. Now, from prior experience, this is where you either try to convince me otherwise or shunt me from your sight because my naivety pains you. I must admit, I imagine your greater good justification must be quite humorous.”

Piers leans back in his chair and laughs Aerie, "Well I am afraid little lady you, unsurprisingly, have no idea of what you speak. I really do not have the desire to educate you. Vikter knew the risks, and he decided to take them. And Kevan Flowers is still alive. Vikter and I just needed everyone to think he was dead. Now he can come out of hiding."

Aerie’s face darkened with roiling disgust, but she remained otherwise indifferent to his usual bickering. “Ah, I see you have chosen the ‘your naivety pains me’ route. A more evasive approach, though effective nonetheless. It’s such a convenient way to deflect essential questions, is it not?”
A trickle of burning loathing filtered into her eyes when Piers mentioned his little ploy with Kevan; it only made her feel sicker. It was not what she had wanted to hear. But this had helped her realize one quite obvious thing she had known before but failed to apply: Nothing from Piers’s mouth could be trusted. Nobody was dead or alive until she knew for herself, because, even though he claimed to play no game, he certainly was playing something.
“Lord Piers, I might be a prickly little rosebush, but you are something far worse. Being the lady I am, I will not speak it aloud before your sensitive ears. Now, are there any more unpleasant surprises you would like to drop into my lap? I assure you, I could not possibly think any worse of you than I do now.”

"I have plenty of surprises, little girl, but none I wish to share with you. I honestly do no know why Vikter was so infauted with you. I have to assume he was dazzled by beauty and did not bother to pierce your candied shell." Piers remains calm during his diatribe. He paused and examined his hand. "Vikter when he thought he was in trouble insisted that I ask you to work with me. I assume you are going to slam my offer in my face and storm out. And I couldn't be more pleased by that idea."
