Everyone in my ExCos class thinks our lecturer is a Timelord, and two girls came up with the proof!
I figured you might find this funny...
The Batchelor-Boreham Equation
P = N* x fp x nhzx fl x fi x fs
P = The probability that Dr Sneddon is a timelord.
N* = Number of star systems visited.
There have been 192 episodes of Dr Who produced, an average of 10 per series (for purpose of this, 10 per year), and theoretically 1 star system (give or take) has been visited each time, so multiplying by 4.5 gives 45 adventures per year (at a convenient rate of 1 per week) leaving 7 weeks off for a holiday – Even timelords need a break every now and again!
fp = Fraction of planets that have a problem with alien life forms that needs solving or is willing to be helped by the doctor.
This is most likely to be hovering about 0.8, as some planets (such as us) will not have contact with alien life forms.
nhz = number of humanoid zombies in the planetary system.
Let’s face it – It’s just not a proper adventure without a couple of zombies! 500 per planetary system sounds just about right.
fl = Fraction of free time.
Lectures that he teaches inhibit free time available for timelord activity. About ¼ of his time is taken up by lectures and labs etc, so this value is ¾.
fi = Fraction of informed people that know of his existence.
In an ideal world and being optimistic, this could be approximated as 10,000 people knowing of his timelord nature. As a fraction of the world’s population (approx 6.5 billion) this is 1/65000.
fs = Fraction of those that accept Dr Sneddon as Dr Who.
As there are 4 possibilities (John Barrowman, Dr Who, Tom Cruise or None), in true multiple choice format this gives the answer as ¼!
So….
P = (4.5x192) x 0.8 x 500 x 3/4 x 1/65000 x 1/4
P = 0.997 (3sf)
This is as close to 1 as possible – Almost certain proof that Dr Sneddon is indeed the latest regeneration of the Doctor!
