Brandon was sitting on one of the benches outside the Sealord’s palace and tried to note some of the more miserable guards. He sighed. It would take days before he found a good enough target. There were too many miserable guards from the palace it seemed. Brandon trudged back to his inn, he had sold his mother’s house and establishment earlier and had gotten a good deal of money, and changed into navy-blue coloured clothes. The almost royal colours would likely ensure him an audience with the Black Pearl, not that he needed it as he had been her guard long ago. He brought his harp too, of course, to have an alibi.
As he neared her mansion he saw a guard he had seen standing at a post near the Sealord. “One of his personal guards maybe?” he thought. The guard was thrown out by some of the Black Pearl’s guards, two big men he knew as Duiker and Kalam. “Don’t bother showing up here anymore, she won’t see you. Ever,” Kalam grunted. “I just want to see her magnificent face. There’s nothing harmful about seeing her face for pity sake,” the palace guard almost pleaded. Duiker made a fist and the palace guard walked sullenly away. Brandon smiled and walked after him.
“Mister,” he yelled after the guard. And as the guard stopped he added “what would you do for me if I gave you access to the Black Pearl”. The guard looked astonished, and didn’t recognize him from the sealord’s meeting. “I would be in eternal gratitude lord”. “Good, the only thing you have to do is to write down everything of major importance the Sealord plans, and you’ll be able to see the most beautiful woman in the world,” Brandon whispered trying to use magic to make the offer more alluring. The guard nodded and Brandon didn’t truly know if he had convinced the man with magic or if the man truly was so desperate. “Come back the next time you have any news to deliver and you’ll be able to see her.”
Deciding he would have to see the Black Pearl tomorrow he went and talked to the musicians and entertainers of Braavos that had gotten a hard time. No, no there are always people looking for entertainers in Westeros. I’ll even give you enough money for the fare to Westeros and back, maybe even more if you send me letters of valuable information. No, Westeros is not any colder than Braavos. Dorne is in fact warmer wait for the war to be over before you go there though, they would be thankful of cheering afterwards. Promises, persuasion and some gold, helped immensely and both sides walked out of the deal smiling. The entertainers would leave for Lannisport, Oldtown, King’s Landing and Dragonstone tomorrow.
Once again he found himself outside the mansion. “I’m here to compose the most beautiful song the world has ever heard, and for that I need the right inspiration,” he said in a Quartheen accent. Duiker grunted and gave him access. “Flamboyancy is the key,” he thought wryly.
Brandon sat in the green house and played some tunes on his harp. The Black Pearl entered and he looked up. She looked exactly like the last time he had seen her. “You’ve improved, Brandon,” she said “I can still remember the day the cats screeched because of your playing”. Brandon chuckled, courtesans and whores could see through every disguise his mother had said and it seemed true enough. “One improves with age,” he smiled. “So are you truly here to compose the most beautiful song then?” the courtesan’s eyes glinted with amusement. Brandon shook his head. “I’m afraid not. I have gained a spy inside the Sealord’s palace and I need him to deliver the information to you and for you to send it to me again, please Bella?”. Bella huffed “I don’t know why I ever allowed you to make use of that name. I shall be fairly rewarded of course”. Brandon nodded “The spy is the guard from the palace that Duiker and Kalam threw out today. What do you want for reward?”. “ I don’t lack for money and wealth, instead you shall compose the song you were supposed to and the next time you’re in Braavos you shall attend a ball as my personal bard. I might give you some information my self if you prove good enough, you know us courtesans bitter enemies in public and friends in private, You have no clue how much our costumers brag and gossip”. Brandon smiled and began to play his harp.
