Jon grabs the girl and shakes her ceaselessly, calling her name desperately.

Selyse clutched him with panicked strength, and he could see real fear in the girl's eyes. She was trembling violently as he shook her awake. "Something's in his throat," she said tearfully. "I couldn't breathe. It was choking me." She shuddered again, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I thought I was going to die. He died."

Jon looked at the girl, bewildered. Just then a messenger burst through the halls, suddenly stopping when he sees Jon. "Milord," he said hesitantly, "a... message. From the south." The messenger bows and hurries off after Jon clutches the letter and opens it. Why did he call me 'milord?' Everyone knows I am just a knight.
Dear Ser Jon Lydden, I regret to inform you of your brother's death. Lord Lewys died by poison in Dornish Wine at Sunspear, a dirty trick for Dornish swine. We all mourn his loss, and his body will be returned to the Westerlands as soon as it can be. You are now Lord Lydden, do your best to lead House Lydden in your brother's honor.
Ser Tytos Blackwood, Kingsguard
Jon looks at the girl in blank disbelief, his face pale. "He died... he choked."

Selyse's pale, tear-streaked face looked up into his, and then at the letter. She tried to calm herself and wipe her tears.
"I can't believe it," she whispered, half-awed. "I saw...I felt..he really did di..." she stopped herself, and looked at Jon's shocked face with searching eyes. Then she put a small hand over his. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

Rhae began to laugh. "I began to think you wouldn't say it. Though if I recall correctly, it was you and that Payne boy who got into so much trouble," she said, eyes twinkling. Marq nods, "that seems a likely recounting, I have a habit of getting into trouble." He allowed his eyes to drop down to her bodice for a moment before looking up again.

Rhae gave him another bright smile as she cut her swan. She had changed a great deal from the little girl who liked dolls and kittens and dreamed of knights. Now she had flowered into womanhood, and with it came a heightened awareness.
"Really?" she smiled. "And here I thought I was speaking to the perfect knight."

Marq grinned, "alas, my lady of Rykker, perfect knights are boring. I am perfect in my imperfection, exciting, thrilling, dangerous. All these things make me better than the so-called perfect knight."

Rhae laughed aloud. "Your modesty, as well." She leaned back, taking a deep draught of wine. "Perfect knights are a bit boring, perhaps. So what trouble do you get into, ser?"

Marq's eyes were drinking Rhae in now as he smiled, "all manner of trouble, but nothing that a lady of noble birth should be hearing of."

A scruffy knight looked at Scav as he spoked and nodded in agreement. "Bloody heathens," he spat. "I would have ripped 'em limb from limb."
///
Rhae laughed and refilled his flagon. "Then I shall not ask to hear of your wickedness, ser." By the sparkle in her eye, he could tell that it made him more interesting in her eyes. "Tell me instead of your travels. Have your battles taken you far afield?"

Scav looked to the knight, "No doubt you would have ser. Clearly a fierce fucker of a knight you are. I know we were.." he makes a sickened faced, "liberating her, but I can't help but think putting Duskendale to the sack would have been a hell of alot more fun."

Marq grinned at seeing his flagon being filled. "My lady, are you trying to get me drunk?" he asked, then locked eyes with her as he took a large gulp of wine.
He leaned back in his chair to answer her question. "Let me see, Storm's End is the greatest keep I have ever seen," he said, "the walls themselves might well be thicker than the Dun Fort in parts."
"But it is Dorne I look forward to, I go to fight there soon with the Dawn Raider. They say the perils are great, and that many lives have been lost already. I may well never return."

Rhae seemed to look at him with new regard. "Dorne? I have heard the battles rage fiercely there. Where will the Dawn Raider take you? Sunspear?" She touched his arm. "I am sure you will not fall."

"So many of you don't understand," the knight said, realizing he spoke to a mercenary sellsword. "War is not for glory, but for the glory of the Warrior." His eyes were alight. "The Father Above made us men, and the Warrior made us knights to do the Seven's will."

"Oh there is no certainty of that, Rhae, the Dornish use cowardly tactics, and fight with poisoned blades. Though of course, no man fights so fiercely than when he has thoughts of a woman in his heart. Fortunately for me you have given me just such thoughts."
"As well as many not so noble thoughts," he added with a grin.
