Brandon walked in the streets of King’s Landing a small city compared to the Free Cities. There was a lack of proper entertainers. “I’ll have to deal with that when I get to Braavos,” he thought. The taverns were full. The lords and ladies at the Grand council had brought a good deal of people with them. Some bards, serving maids and guards were eager to earn more money. Brandon smiled for himself, the meeting was a blessing indeed. He had managed to talk to some guards, servants and serving maids from every region except Dorne. Patrek had also agreed to send him letters of happenings in the Red Keep. Patrek would report to the King and Lord Regent anyway, so as long as the Vale was loyal he could count on his distant cousin. The King’s Men would be the ears and eyes of the Red Keep.
Brandon stepped into a tavern and closed the door before the cold could creep in. This was his last stop for the day, and the luck seemed to shine on him as he spotted a gold cloak near the bar. He walked closer and heard him grumble about not having enough for more ale. Brandon sat down next to him. “Two ales for me and my friend here,” he said to the barkeep. The gold cloak looked at him a bit suspiciously before nodding. They finished drinking their ale before they started talking.
They talked a while before Brandon broached his purpose. “What do you do in the Goldcloaks, anyway?”. The man snorted “the bastards are keeping me down, just because I read and write they make me fill up reports all day long. The pay isn’t too good either. I could’ve been commander now if it hadn’t been for the coup!”.
Brandon smiled “I’m looking for a loyal man in the city guard, a man loyal to the King,” he whispered. “I’m loyal to the King”, the man said starting to sweat. Brandon lifted one eyebrow. “Really? One might consider that with the City Guard’s previous actions not everyone would be loyal.”
The man flinched and stuttered “Are you from the Red Keep then?”. Brandon smiled slyly “I’m working for the Royces. I’m sure you’ve heard of Roland Royce, he spirited the King away from the Usurper. He’s a great man and loyal to the King and honour. I’m sure guilt could be forgotten if you report to me if you find useful information. And if you so much as get a whiff of someone bribing the goldcloaks you’ll report straight away. Do you understand me?”. The man could only nod. “I’m glad, take care then and remember to step carefully and stay true to the King”.
Result:
Brandon increases his whisperer network to all regions of Westeros except Dorne.
Brandon increase espionage to beginner
Brandon increase persuasion to noteworthy
