To my dearly beloved people of Dorne, and also to the Seven Kingdoms;
I, in concert with the Dornish court have conclusively decided that the reunification of the Dornish Kingdom with the Seven Kingdoms to the North was, indeed, a sorrowful error brought about by the aggression and hostility of northern politics. Though at the time of our acceptance of the terms of former Lord Regent Piers Bettley, no alternative option remained open to us, it has become increasingly evident of late that Dorne will never be afforded the standing befitting to her regal station in the court of northern policy. Dorne, therefore, will henceforth be known and accepted as a free Kingdom, ruled and governed independently, servile to no King, but rather only to the Royal Family Martell, and its current reigning Lady, myself, Tristeza Martell.
Furthermore, any aggression by the Northern Kingdom, or implication that this proclamation of independence is in any way invalid will be seen as an act of War; Dorne, prizing peace above all else, will not strike against our Northern brother, but will defend ourselves if necessary.
This day shall be known in history as the decisive moment of Dornish liberty, and will be celebrated by our posterity—we, the Kingdom of Dorne, are a proud and able nation, who will once more prove to be unbowed, unbent, unbroken, and moreover free of the bonds of the North; governed by no foreign man.
Signed,
Fondly to my friends, and courteously to my enemies (you know better which you are, than I),
Tristeza Martell, Lady of Sunspear, Architect of Dornish Freedom, Protector of the Desert People, and recently ascended Princess of Dorne.
