This is a new idea I've come up with: There will (probably tonight) be a new forum called "Battles" with the sub-headline, "Active Scenarios".
Battles would no longer fall under normal scenarios and would be run in this new forum. In this forum I would start by creating a thread for the battle and giving a description of the scene. Then players write up their orders in a RPing post and I give an update for every "round" of the battle until one side (player, npc, etc) surrenders, retreats or is crushed. Skills are converted into numbers which I would then factor into die rolling. I would still let the battles be open-ended, but it will allow for greater realism to do this. (Though battles will become much more dangerous, and fighting a legendary commander would become something -terrifying-)
This would allow for more player involvement and greater character development. You could order specific things like charge the enemy's right flank, or try to press the enemy general into single combat, and these would actually impact the 'active scenario'.
After each battle is over, I would post a conclusion and the thread would be locked.
I'd like to know what all of you think of this idea.
Thanks! -Crake

It sounds like a good idea to me. While I enjoyed the way the Battle of Casterly Rock played out, it would have been even more interesting if we had had "live" input into the strategies.

Things are almost getting there Crake. One more step and we could run War Game style battles, which I could help you with.
