Attacking Force: Total Number of Men: 10,000 men (6,500 westerners, 1,500 northmen, 2,000 riverlander)
Force that will attack: 40 ships, with 50 crew and 50 boarding party each Commander: Lewys Lydden Expert- Naval Warfare Expert- Battle Command Apprentice- Ambushing
Defensive force:
The Ironborn 4,500 total men 22 longships patrolling the island
Commander: Mortimer (Due to Erik's post today in Character Creation(Discussion), I do not believe Mortimer has any command skills whatsoever)
The 40 ships are to defeat the enemy fleet. When this is completed, the soldiers are to be dropped off on the island and wait while the ships return with more men. When 8,000 men are on the island, they are to march on the small motte and bailey on the island and kill whatever resistance they find there if they do not surrender.

Look at the latest post in Character Creation(Discussion). Command skills are not listed, unless I am just reading it wrong.

There are 31 ships at Bear Island, not 13.

Since when? According to Erik (and the Smith) there were 23 and Lewys had a scenario where he burned nine of them. Erik sent one to Deepwood Motte, which has been detained and is no longer part of the fleet, which should leave 13...

I don't know where they got the 23 figure, there were 40 there, and have been since it was reinforced with 2,000 men. Then nine were burned.
Additionally, Mortimer Pyke may be castellan of Bear Island, but I don't imagien he's leading the ships. At the very least it would be Erik's old second, Harrin Three-fingers, who had Apprentice Naval-Battle. Presuming Erik isn't there, of course.

I made a post about two days ago in the Bear Island thread saying: Can you at least write a scenario about getting past the 40 ships currently patrolling the waters around Bear Island? So I'm not just springing this up now.

Erik is not there.
Harrin will be commanding the battle.
Mortimer's gone ashore to parlay.
As for the ship numbers. I have 14 ships, minus one for the one Erik's on heading there now. I was thinking 2,000 men would be an additional 10 ships, not 20 or however many.

2,000 men can float 40 ships, which is what they are doing

All I knew was, Felryn sent 2,000 men North. For some reason, I was thinking a low number of ships.

so the Ironborn have 30 ships participating in this attack, against 40, and Mortimer Pyke and his ship are in Deepwood Motte? How many Ironborn does that leave in the garrison?
Do the Longships have 50 men each or 100? If the fleet crew is 1500, that leaves 3000 in the garrison, but those two numbers could be switched if the ironborn pack their ships full.

Ships in LoW have a minimum of 50 and max of 100. These would be packed to max capacity, so it would be 3,000 in the ships, and 1,500 garrison in the keep.
Since there are too many men for all the attacking ships to hold, I presume most of them would be in transport ships?

ooc: longships traditionally crew 100 per longship (which makes them excellent boarding vessels if they get close enough) but you can reduce it, though this also reduces their effectiveness of course. The westermen will have the advantage in numbers and ship size, it all depends on how the ironborn choose to defend against those numbers. Each ship they sink, damage or capture will impact on your ability to ferry more troops across. Not to mention your bridgehead contingent could be reduced. It'll be interesting either way - you didn't think an amphibious assault would be easy did you? EDIT: Damn! There goes my magic post number

Since there are too many men for all the attacking ships to hold, I presume most of them would be in transport ships? No, the ships will be filled full and the remaining men will cross in a second trip. Lewys isn't going to risk putting men in slow clumsy transports when fighting you guys at sea lol Also, Benfry, think about it like this: you're 2/3 of the way to 1000 posts!
