"I did not such thing. If you search the study again you would find a message sent to Kings Landing for the finest builder in all of the Realm. Also if you go and look at my past transactions you will see if have been buying Stone. Francis you are so much like me that I would never do such a thing. I only wish to help you or the next Hightower that is all I have ever wanted. But most of all I want to marry your mother. I have finally found love do you truly think I would do anything to cause that to disappear." Garlan is on his knees in front of Francis with tears in his eyes.

"A man in love may well do anything good steward. Do you have any enemies? Who would go to such lengths to frame you for this crime? If you know of anyone, call out there name, and they will be brought here and questioned."

"Name. I am sorry I could not name them all Francis. A man who has been here this long and is in business like me gets many enemies. My main rival is a Volantis merchant by the name of Valoes Franz he has the money and the power to do this sort of thing. Plus his trading fleet is my main opponent and he owns the half of Oldtown I don't so he would be in the running for my replacement. If you believe these false accusations."

"It seems friend, that we are in need of some divestment. I do not think it healthy to have so few hands in the Oldtown pie. Why with one dirty trick we may lose command of our merchants to a foreigner. That seems unwise. Likewise if you are responsible for these acts of theft, than anything not owned by a foreigner would be owned by a crook. Equally disastrous. Tell me Steward Rowan, does your family still rule at Goldengrove?"

"I think it would be best if you left Oldtown Garlan. Your enemies have framed you in an effort to see me do the dirty work of execution for them. Since they have failed, they will come after you. And while I would protect you, one can not protect from an assassin's blade forever. I would suggest that you return to Goldengrove. Perhaps your Nephew has need of a steward. Of course if you leave with all your property here, your enemies will strike at you through it. Better perhaps to sell it off before you leave. I'm not a rich man, but I will offer you a decent price, and you can leave as quickly as possible, before your enemies strike again."

Francis sighs, and covers his face with his hands. "I am trying to offer you an honorable way out Garlan, because I know that what you've done, you did with good intentions. We shall blame this embarrassment on a foreigner who no one cares for, your honor will be clean, and you can retire with a good name and a thick wallet to Goldengrove."

Francis face frowns. "I did not mind you blaming crimes on some foreign enemy Garlan, I will not have you blame me. If you did this out of spite because I was short with you, or if you did it because you were afraid that I would not honor my promise to let you remain as steward, than simply say so. You wouldn't be the first steward to line his pocket, and the one who replaces you will probably do so as well. But I won't tolerate insults. Please friend, accept this mercy I offer you. For my mother's sake if not for mine. Accept mercy, and retire fat and rich and happy."

"This is for an insult." Garlan spits out, "When did I insult you Francis. I only ever wished to help you. Do you know what I did he I heard it was you who was Regent of the Far Reach. I smiled and said now the Reach is in good hands."

"Than why did you do this crime Garlan? It must have been you. The ledger shows an amazing knowledge of the city and its peoples. knowledge that you have. Please friend, take the honorable road out. I do not wish to sentence a friend for a minor error in judgment, but if you do not give me room to be lax, than I will have no choice. This is the final time I offer. Tell me that this foreign merchant has framed you. Give up your stake in Oldtown operations for a fair price and move away. Live happily in Goldengrove where my mother can come visit her good friend from time to time as the mood strikes her. It's an excellent end to a life of stewardship."

"Others take you Garlan Rowan, can't you ever understand when it is no longer time to give orders, but instead to take what is offered? I will hold out my hand one last time. Accept it and live in peace the rest of your days, or go to the grave with the city knowing of your criminality." Francis sighed heavily, but the stout old Steward would not budge.
"Garlan Rowan, On the charge of bribery, I find you guilty and for this crime sentence you to 25 years in prison." Francis paused, sighing sadly." On the charge of embezzlement against Lord Hightower, Lord of Oldtown and the Far Reach I find you guilty andf or this crime I sentence you to die by executioner's axe."
Francis looked over the poor old man with a sympathetic eye. "If you would like to take the black, now is your chance." Guards seize Garlan Rowan, and he is placed in chains.

OOC: Why is he being killed for these crimes. I don't think they would have the charge of Death with them.
