Aranya broke out laughing. "You tried to change it, but it means the same thing. That is too painful, ser. I wouldn't do that to you." She chuckled and began pulling her boots on, slow and leisurely.

Aranya kissed him back, mounted up and leaned over and smacked him from her saddle when he said that. "Maybe your palfrey's barren. It's too overwhelming to bear the Knight of Diamonds around the country. She's barren in sympathy of all the women you get with child."

"How thoughtful of you," Aranya grinned. She glanced about the headland. "I hadn't realized how late it was. Let's see if your Tansy can keep up with my Snow." She kicked her black forward and quickly went into a fast canter.

Her hunts brought nothing; all traces had simply vanished. But as Aranya rode back into town, Ser Denys saw her reading a letter.
"What is it, my lady?" he asked.
Aranya looked up, grim. She crumpled the letter. "I have to go to the Vale."
She boarded a ship from Duskendale's harbor.
