It is announced that there will be a small tournament held when the Lady of Duskendale returns home. There will be a melee and joust, and young knights who have yet to make a name for themselves are invited to enter.
Since it is a small, local tournament, mostly crownland knights enter. Two Dornish knights enter in honor of Princess Nymeria, ward of Duskendale.
The four defending champions:
Ser Vance Hardyng, the Knight of Diamonds Ser Haviland Ashby Ser Sylas Wyl Ser Denys the Hammer
The challengers:
Ser Harmond Locke Ser Ethan Smallwick Ser Patrek Harte Ser Roland Royce Ser Auron Dayne Ser Marten Lannister Ser Garth Greenhelm of Brownhollow Ser Barbrey of Crackclaw Point Prince Steffon Baratheon Knight of the Black Ring Patchwork Knight Ser Ulwick
The tourney is about to begin, and is closed to new entrants.
The victors will be awarded with a purse of 70 dragons, a horse and service in Duskendale, if they wish it.

The knights' pavilions are set up on the tourney grounds. In the stands, almost all of Duskendale has turned out to watch the games.

Auron looked at the big crowds, grinning. This was his day to show his worth.

Instead of awaiting challenges from inside his plush red and white diamond pavilion, or ahorse at the far end of the lists, Ser Vance Hardyng stands next to the tall post that bears his shield, looking any challenger in their face if they dare call him out. And smiling while doing so.

The first four challengers are Ser Roland Royce, Ser Ethan Smallwick, Ser Harmond Locke and Ser Marten Lannister. Their shields gleam brightly as they as they ride to the lists to meet their opponents. The commons call out encouragement to their favorites.
In the lord's box, Aranya, Alla Hunter, Ser Jonjen Hill and several others watch. Rhae and Nymeria sit there as well. Aranya grins when Roland Royce challenges Vance. Her cousin had already proven that he was a worthy fighter and rider, and she hoped he would do well.

Ser Vance chuckled when challenged by Ser Roland. The two knew each other from their service in the Vale; it was a familiar battle. He mounted his horse and rode to the end of the list, beside the other three champions.

The heralds announced the champions and the contenders. There seemed to be a lot of bets on the Knight of Diamonds, and many of them seemed to be made by women.

"So, do they love your boyish looks, or your jousting skill?" Marten asks Vance, half-mockingly.

"I think it is both," Ser Ethan Smallwick said, hoisting his shield.

Steffon smiles as he watches atop his dappled war horse, blue eyes gleaming from behind the slit of his helmet, "May one more enter?"

"So, do they love your boyish looks, or your jousting skill?" Marten asks Vance, half-mockingly. "Definitely my jousting skill, if you catch my meaning," Ser Vance replies. Looking over at Prince Steffon, he says "My my, a royal amongst us! This little tourney just took a whole new sheen. I hope you increase that purse, Lady Aranya, for when I win it."

Steffon smirks at Ser Vance, "I expect you not to take it easy on me, regardless of being a 'prince'."

"I only take it easy when a Lady asks me to. Otherwise, I always go hard," Ser Vance replies casually.

"Some Ladies like going "hard" though". Marten responds, laughing,

"That's why I only do so when they ask, Ser Marten," Ser Vance says, smiling.
