Erik sees which way the winds have blown. At first he looks annoyed, but seems to resign himself to the fact that the man he backed had lost. He turns to Mortimer and gives him a shrug, then joins the crowd gathering around Harlaw. He gives his new lord a firm handshake, telling him, "Well won, Harlaw. My ship and my axe are yours to command."

Lord Harlaw walks through the ironborn until he comes to Mortimer and Harral. Turning first to Harral he says "I thank you for throwing your weight behind my cause, especially when you wished to win. In recognition I name you my Lord Commander of the Ironborn Fleet. We will speak again in Pyke about where we go from here. I meant what I said. Every man of you leave here with a blank slate to me. I hold none of you as my enemies" his eyes travel to Mortimer in the last sentence and he speaks to him. "I don't know you, boy. You claim to be Balor's get but Balor never spoke of you in life and it's too late to ask him now" he smiles. "Still, get or not, the captains did not follow your grand dreams. I think you were wrong to do so but you were brave to try for the Chair. I would speak with you too if you still harbour ambitions to make your way amongst us? It is a rare man after all that any Codd likes!" he barked a laugh.
