I don't understand where a door swinging in or out comes into play.

You don't want a door to swing into a cell because then a prisoner can hide behind it.

why does Horas want to kill Emelia anyway?

She's a player in the Game of Throne and this is one time to do away with her.

Well, with Horas in the cell I highly doubt she can hide behind the door and get away or anything.

There seem to be more and more "character on character" killings recently - where's the love? ;D I noticed that...and I was involved in two, and blamed for another.

Alright... I think the problem Horas is that the situation would be fishy to Emelia right away.
But I can not imagine Emelia still would have her knives on her? Generally prisoners are not allowed to keep metal instruments of death.
So Emelia would be able to react before she was hacked to death.
What are you asking to do Emelia?

Metal knives? No. Needles in her hair? Easier.
And I intend to have Emelia go out in a blaze and turn the supernatural dial up to 11. Kill a guard, light some flames, kill herself dramatically.

I am not trying to deny Emelia a chance to act before she is hacked to death. I just think it is dubious that she would suddenly spot an assassination attempt before Horas did anything suspicious. I don't think anything I did before jumping out of the room was suspicious -- the last meeting with Emelia progressed exactly the same way minus the violence: guards enter, Horas enters, Horas talks.

Horas you brought one more guard into the room.
Plus she has several beats before the draw their swords and cut her down to react.
And Emelia magic levels are low because of no Dragons.

And Emelia magic levels are low because of no Dragons. Actually, we don't know that the two directly corrolate. We know that the Alchemists believe Dragons are the cause of magic, but it seems to me that it's actually the other way around. I think magic starts to return to the world of westeros, and that's why the dragons hatch, because: a) The others start returning before dragons hatch b) Bran starts having greendreams before dragons hatch c) Long ago, dragons started dying for no apparent reason (because magic was disappearing at the time?) d) Mizzi Maz Dur was able to do magic before the dragons hatched It seems that dragons are the cause of magic because after they hatch, melisandre and thoros become so much more powerful and the alchemists can make wildfire more quickly, but that might just be because the presence of magic was just steadily increasing.

I just thought that it was anything fire related was linked to Dragons...Mel's stuff, wildfire. While the Others/Children seem to be connected to the Northerner's magic like greendreams and warging. Have no clue how Mizzi links in this...that was just how I took the readings.

It would probably be most accurate to say that there is some as yet not fully defined symbiotic relationship between Dragons and magic, with each requiring the other to be at full strength, likely the same is true with the Others.
