The only reference I see to numbers in the Scenarios relating to Jorah are 1,500 lost in one battle. I may have missed a scenario, so feel free to point me towards one. I'm not trying to be a hardass or a dick, but just trying to retain a sense of scale. 15,000 men is a huge army. For one thing, you probably outnumber the remaining defenders of King's Landing by over 10,000.
I would say 500 or so is common for a sellsword company, and the best/biggest would range up into the few thousands. Normally, a lord, city or nation would hire several sellsword captains to make up a mercenary army. As Elane said, a standing army of 15,000 would be too much of a threat, not to mention way to expensive for anyone.

I've said my peace and I'll leave it up to the Smith. I'll also start scavenging those Westerland mines while I'm out there so I can hire Jorah Lannister...

It looks like Westeros is ripe job market for Jorah. He's already had offers from Greyjoy and Arryn

In "Hear us Roar" the Unsullied number 10000, and I'm assuming that Jorah had at least a third of that in calvary and archers. If we coun't the losses in battle that still takes it down to about 12500. And actually, Jorah's line hasn't even been chilling around the Free Cities for these past few centuries. All of their contracts were in the Far East, and they only came west because Lys offered them a really, really lucrative contract.
PS: Just because Jorah's a Lannister doesn't mean he's gunning for Callen. He has never even been to King's Landing, and he doesn't know a thing about Allard. He came to Westeros to ransom some nobles who were playing sellswords. In "Hear us Roar" (it's on the second page) he killed Slynt, and in the Stepstones thread, he mentioned that he captured a Frey, a Rykker and a son of Aedon's who had fled from the assault on King's Landing.

Ooh, we'll want to kill Rykker since he has a claim on Lord Selwyn's new property. I think I also had been assuming a bit in reading Jorah's battles that he was part of a larger Lyseni force, as opposed to having that entire army under his personal command.

I just said that about the Rykker in the Royce forum And I assumed the same thing about the Stepstones battle - that it was an official Lyseni army supplemented by mercenaries.

If the common people of KL find out who's get he is, they'll do it for you Looks like your ransom money is drying up fast! You may get more for their heads!! Not sure Callen would like Aranya's form of justice though

Aranya's justice is kind of harsh, true And what are you scandalizing my poor Elane for? She dies from mortification if she even sees a shirtless man.

The Summer Islands are a hot, sensuous place. That's what makes it so popular with Septon missionaries...

Elane will die before she goes there. Aranya might consider it, however.

Yah, The Free Cities don't really have standing armies, a lot of them have navies, but most rely on sellswords for both defense and offense. Lys hired both Jorah's and Bittersteel's companies to take the Stepstones.

You know, without being bitter Addam Tyrell died when he lost a combat by 101 points yet Anselm lives after a difference on 105?

Did Addam and Anselm have different skill levels? Because Addam died in a joust against Timm Vikary, and I think Anselm is older. But I'm not sure.
