The entire Westerosi army (including the Night's Watch, the southern contingents, and Lord Stark's forces) numbered well towards 15,000 or higher. Over the past couple months the men had been prepared for combat and acquainted with the wall. In the last couple raids by Hallise's men, there had been a small breach in the gate at night. The gate under the Wall was now heavily guarded, but remained the greatest weakness. Should the gate fall, the Wall may fall shortly after.
The rangers on the wall had sent scouts forward into Hallise's camps and though few of them made it back, they brought back a report of hundreds of thousands of men camped outside the wall. Though this was likely quite an exaggeration, any force equal or greater than their own would prove to be a challenging fight.
Already the scouts had heard reports that the wildlings rode alongside giants on mammoths.
The Battle of the Wall would begin before they knew it.
Can every commander at the wall please post their preparations and where they are located along the wall. Most of the attack is based around Castle Black.
I will post the first round of the battle when this is done.

Lord Tallahar Tyrell will scout all areas around the wall but headquarters will be at Castle Black where he might swing his sword arm. At Castle Black he will learn what he can of the Wildlings numbers, and other things.

Donal's forces will be stationed as follows: 50 scouts & skirmkishers will be stationed, 20 each at the two forts nearest Castle Black, to warn if wildlings scale those. The remaining 10 will be dispersed with fast horses in a 3 mile ring in front of the main gate to warn of the approach of the main wildling force. 150 archers & 100 crossbowmen will be stationed on top of the Wall above the main gate. These will be commanded by Lord Robert Hightower. The 250 heavy horse will be held in reserve to come in when/if the gate is breached and we are in danger of being overwhelmed. They will be commanded by my captain, Ser Eddard Peake & Gisella of Asshai (although she will not actually be leading or taking much of an active role in he combat). The remaining 450 men at arms will be placed behind the main gate. I myself will be leading them, and Ser Garret Redfort, the Stormshield and Amdle Flower & Dort of Flea Bottom will also be present.

So I forgot Ser Robert Royce was supposed to bring the Royce troops and kept waiting for Breyn to post something, but he's apparently not here. So, forgive me.
Ser Robert will bring the 2000 Royce soldiers. His men excel at fighting on uneven and mountainous terrain, so part of his force will be stationed atop the Wall with the black brothers. The remainder of his troops, both foot soldiers and mounted knights, will fight from the gates beneath the Wall, and accompany rangers Beyond the Wall if Lord Commander Wendwater requests it.

PART I
The first part of the battle exists in two waves. In the first wave of attackers, 5,000 wildlings press against the Wall. Minimal damage is done and very few notable things occur. Of those 5,000 wildlings, less than a third of them are killed, and they in turn kill nearly 600 defenders. Giants have not been spotted yet, and neither has Hallise the Burned.
In the second wave of attackers, the attackers, now 10,000 wildlings, crash against the Wall. This time they prove successful in damaging the series of gates under the Wall. The gates are still intact and fairly secure but the defenders begin to question whether they will stay that way. 300 men die defending the gates, and 400 die attacking it. Elsewhere 800 defenders are slain and 1,200 attackers are killed.
Notable casualties: A few outrageously and remarkably armed wildlings whose names and reputations are fairly unknown. Ser Roderic Grafton, an elder member of the Night's Watch Ser Duane Smallwood, the heir to Acorn Hall Ser Thom Frey Ser Markus Frey Ser Collen Lynderly Ser Lionel Brax

Lord Rhodri Royce sits ahorse awaiting any Wildling breakthrough. It is the job of the heavy cavalry to charge and smash any that make it past the Wall -- through, over or around -- and also charge through the gate and chase any Wildlings should they break and flee.

Ser Robert Royce is up on the Wall with his archers, shooting fire arrows down into the mass of wildlings still beyond the Wall.
Garrett Redfort is leading small cavalry charges at the gates.

PART II
The attackers lose some ground as the southern armies force their men against the wildlings. Hallise the Burned disappears from the battle as his men temporarily lose hope. He loses 1,200 men in this part of the battle while only inflicting 800 casualties. The gate under the Wall receives negligible damage.
The wildling force experienced a huge morale boost as Hallise returned with a force of giants riding mammoths. The gates of the wall were in danger as the giants made straight for them. Anyone who got in their way was seriously risking their life.

OOC Note: I posted the below in the "Castle Black" thread, but since it details a 'maneover', I thought it belonged here as well. It follows a post I made about flaming arrows being fired at the Giants.
~~~~~
While the volleys of flaming arrows and other ammunition are sent in crashing waves, Lord Rhodri Royce, his spear held high above his head, organizes a long line of heavy horse, knights and freeriders and all those ready, able and fresh to join the frey. Beside him are the best: the Stormshield, Ser Giles Grandison, Lord Cerdic Hasty, and Lord Betram Selmy. Ser Garrett Redford, riding hard to rejoin the fight, is pulled into the line.
"Men, now is the time of testing! Knights, now the battle is quickening, and in these moments, our virtue, our manhood, and our strength will be tested by the lumbering shadows of the gods and spirits of old! We fight today to defend our realm, we fight against the coming beasts of the Age of Legends! We fight, we may die, to defend all that is true, and just, in our great land! Now ride!"
As he spoke, the enemy, massive, gnarled, primordial, are pushing their way through the gate, using their massive weight to plow through the outmanned footmen.
With that, he turns Javelin, his mighty warhorse, towards the enemy, lowers his spear, and leads a thundering charge of horse uncountable, the assembled strength of the great knights of Westeros, to either fight or die defending all they hold dear.
The remainder of Donal's men at arms, 300 men in all, are to the right of the gate, ready to strike into the flanks of the attackers. Ser Eddard's 250 heavy horse, minus Gisella who is staying behind, join Rhodri's cavalry on it's left flank.
