"Aye, I'm unsure of where we will be best of service. But Rhod can defend King's Landing, and the Riverlands belong to other men. Though Harrenhal may come in handy. The Vale is our home, though, so mayhaps that is where our duty lies."

Aranya was silent for a moment. "I am torn, but differently. My duty lies in the Vale, but my vengeance is in Greywater Watch."

"You cannot find Greywater Watch, sweetling, none but the Crannog can. If Sands ever made it there himself. You are heavily wounded and would not survive the festing swamps. Sands believes too much in himself to remain hidden forever, he will emerge, and we will be ready to crush him when he does."
"And it is no more your vengeance than it is every Valeman's."

"It is my vengeance, because I was a fool to trust Wull. I probably put you in danger over there as well. I should have sided with Bracken and cut Wull down then and there - although that would have created more trouble on the Wall. I was supposed to fix problems on the Wall, not let them blossom." Selwyn could see that this had been weighing on her for months now.
"Still, you're right. We have to defend our home." Her eyes were on Hammen, who was crumpled in a corner, but she didn't seem to be really looking at him.

"Bracken seemed nearly as much a fool as Lord Wull that day. I still think Bracken is a fool. There was no way to know then what would happen now. And Wull is merely a puppet for Lance Sands -- there was no way to know then what would happen."

"Word needs to be carried to the King that an army is needed in King's Landing -- before the bridges are destroyed."

"Do you want me to do it?" Aranya said. "I can still ride - and fast."

Selwyn scowls. "Not with those wounds. We have plenty of messengers here amongst us, or I can do it if I must."

Aranya smiled faintly. "I'm not afraid, but we can send a messenger. You're not going anywhere without me. The Mountains need us, I think. And the clans. Chella is not bending her knee to shamans if I can help it."
She frowned. "Hammen said shamans from abroad...did he mean men who can wield real magic?"

"It is three shamans and a Warlock. I would assume they all have real magic, of some sort. Of all people, you shouldn't doubt the possibility."

"I wanted to. But there's nothing to be done for it, except to fight them." There was a gleam in her eye. "When do we leave?"

"The sooner the better, with a messenger to find Rhod as well."

"Where is he?" Aranya frowned. "Brynden is with him. Did he leave King's Landing?"

"Last I knew he was in King's Landing, but he was likely to travel towards the Vale. A messenger may find him on the road, or we could ride out to find him."

Aranya's thoughts went to Brynden. She suddenly missed her little boy. "We'll ride out and find him," she said, limping back to her room to get her things. "And Hammen?" She glanced over her shoulder at the silent black brother. "He's still a traitor."
